Podcasting seems full of "rules" these days, but are they really set in stone?
In our latest episode, we took a hard look at some of the most debated 'absolutes' in podcasting and found that flexibility might deliver the best results...
🕒 Episode Length: Some say there's no "too long," only "too boring." But I feel that when you're starting out, having a consistent length can set expectations and build trust with your audience. Flexibility is important, but don’t underestimate the value of a well-planned episode duration.
📝 Show Notes: Other experts suggest we use every last character available because those detailed show notes can boost SEO. And that's valid! Other podcasters argue that show notes are a waste of time because no one reads them. A smart strategy is to create two versions: a brief summary for podcast platforms and a more detailed post on your website.
🎙️ Transcripts: They’re crucial for accessibility and SEO, but do they need to be perfect? I know podcasters that spend HOURS writing their own transcripts or cleaning up the AI-generated ones. My thoughts? While accuracy is ideal, it's not necessary. Focus on making your content accessible without getting bogged down by perfection.
The bottom line? There are best practices, but few absolutes in podcasting. It’s about finding what works best for you and your audience.
