Why does naming a podcast feel like the hardest thing ever?
In my experience, perfectionism and fear of judgment play huge roles.
Many podcasters want their show's name to be perfect, creating pressure and leading to indecision. Concerns about how others will perceive the name can cause anxiety, as podcasters worry that the name won't attract an audience or reflect their content accurately.
So how do other podcasters land on a name and how do they get 'unstuck' picking the name? I asked several podcasters this morning...
👋D.R. emphasized the importance of clarity over cleverness. "The cuter you are, the less likely people are to discover you," she said, advising that your podcast name should clearly convey what it's about, to improve discoverability.
👋Nicholas Nalbach shared how he used AI to generate name ideas for his podcast, "The AI Briefing," and ultimately settled on a name that better conveyed the show's focus.
👋Jonathan Howard highlighted the mental struggle involved. "We second guess ourselves a lot," worried that there could be a better name. he noted. He suggested going with your gut and being comfortable with your choice.
Here are some tips to help you find the 'perfect' name for your podcast:
✅Keep it Clear and Simple: Make sure your podcast name clearly conveys the content. Keep it to 3 to 4 words.
✅Consider SEO: Use keywords that potential listeners might search for. This helps with discoverability.
✅Test It Out: Share your potential podcast names with friends or a focus group to see how they resonate. Sometimes outside perspectives can provide valuable insights.
