Live Nation Urban Presents - The Souls of Black Folk - Episode 7: Kemba Smith

Episode 7 of The Souls of Black Folk features author, public speaker, and criminal justice consultant, Kemba Smith (https://www.instagram.com/kemba_smith). Kemba went from college student to federal prisoner in 1994 after being sentenced with a lengthy 24.5 years. Kemba’s case drew support from across the nation for reversing a disturbing trend in the rise of lengthy sentences for first-time, non-violent drug offenders. The support prompted then President Clinton to commute her sentence in 2000 after having served 6.5 years in prison. Today, Kemba is a wife, mother, public speaker, advocate, consultant and author of her own memoir, ‘Poster Child’. [Recorded on IG live July 21, 2020]
