Revelation 2:20: “Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.”
The Spirit of Jezebel is alive today and is attacking more and more pastors. Just recently, we have seen four or five pastors in the Orlando area fall to the attacks of this spirit. This hurts not just the family, but the church and the whole body of Christ. No wonder Jezebel is choosing to attack pastors.
What is the Spirit of Jezebel? It is a spirit that leads people to commit acts of immorality. People operating under the Spirit of Jezebel are often controllers, manipulators, gossipers, and slanderers. This Spirit manifests in people - often women - and uses them to tempt others into sexual immorality.
Pastors seem to be attractive to women, especially those who are in dysfunctional relationships. It’s no wonder since pastors are always so kind, loving, charismatic, and caring.
All it takes is for an attractive woman walking through a hard place in life to come to the altar to ask for prayer.
The pastor prays for her. She feels the wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit during the prayer but the spirit of Jezebel perverts it and she believes that warm feeling was from the pastor. She begins to ask for prayer more and more. Then she asks to meet the pastor to get some counseling for the problems she’s dealing with. Pretty soon, she begins to visit him and a bond forms between them - a bond that should be reserved for the pastor and his wife. Then temptation and sin enter in.
This spirit can slip in so easily. It may start as something innocent but if we are not aware of the signs that this spirit is manifesting, we can all of a sudden find ourselves trapped in sins of immorality. We need to not ignore this spirit and the little temptations she draws us into.
When Jesus saw a problem, He dealt with it. When He came across a demon, He would cast it out. We have been given this same authority so it is our responsibility to defend ourselves and cast out this spirit.
and cast her out. We also need to be aware of our own selves and resist temptation when it happens.
As pastors and a church, we need to be aware of when Jezebel is operating so that we can deal with her. We need to pray for our pastors, and we need to put on the armor of God. We need to be discerning to realize when this spirit is working, resist her temptation, and cast her out.
