Community Development shapes our lives

Community Development shapes our lives

Community development shapes our lives in more ways than we may realize. It is the process of planning and creating the fabric of our communities, from parks and infrastructure to recreational amenities and everything in between. As Eric Nelson, a community development expert, explains in SoCal Voices Podcast episode Community Development in SoCal, community development is the foundation of our day-to-day lives in Southern California.

When community development is done right, residents are happy and excited about where they live. They appreciate the surrounding community and work to preserve what they have. Good community development results in plenty of housing, amenities, and a sense of community character. On the other hand, bad community development can lead to stagnation, lack of housing, and an overemphasis on parking, which can be detrimental to the community.

One example of successful community development that Eric Nelson mentions is the innovative Covina Bowl development. This project captures the essence of community development and community preservation, creating a vibrant and thriving community space. It serves as a model for how community development can positively impact our quality of life.

Community development is not just about buildings and infrastructure; it is also about the people and amenities within a community. It is about addressing the needs of residents and creating a sense of belonging and connection. When community development is working, it brings about positive change and improvement in our communities.

In Southern California, where the development has been largely auto-centric, community development plays a crucial role in shaping our lives. It determines the layout of our neighborhoods, the availability of amenities, and the overall quality of life. By focusing on good community development practices, we can create communities that are vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive.

As we look to the future, it is essential to continue investing in community development to create thriving and resilient communities in Southern California.
