LILAMORS is a new project by three old friends. With their debut album ‘When I Am Dead, My Dearest’, they present a new face, a new name, and new aesthetics. Slovenian vocalist Ana Čop and her band combine poetic chants with snowflake-like piano playing and electronic sound art.
German pianist Thilo Seevers from Berlin has collaborated with Ana for several years. In 2020 they released an album together as a duo (ACTS!, Klopotec records) under the guidance of producer Uli Rennert, showing their unconventional take on traditional Jazz repertoire. “You have never heard this song played like this”, ORF, the Austrian national broadcaster, commented on their atonal rendition of “Someday My Prince Will Come”.
Having suffered the tragic loss of their mentor and friend Uli amidst the pandemic, Ana and Thilo encountered a new collaborator in sound artist Jaka Arh, already featured on their single “The Great Pinewood”, released in the autumn of 2020.
This new constellation wouldn’t be satisfied with only twisting and bending Jazz classics. Instead, they went to harvest inspiration from poetry that would touch upon the topic of death - afterlife, in-life, and anything on the edge. Taking a poetic approach to songwriting, the band would create flows and miniatures, leaving space for constant innovation and development.
In 2023, the trio presents its debut album, an innovative piece of music leading Jazz into new territories of experimental electro-acoustic music. Recorded and produced as a collective effort since 2021, the record incorporates poetry from the last two centuries as well as original lyrics written by Ana Čop. Stepping up as a new Basel-based band, LILAMORS has established a forward-thinking aesthetic identity making surrealiat collages of seeming stylistic and thematic contrasts. //

Award-winning singer Ana Čop (1994, Ljubljana, Slovenia) is a regular guest on the stages of jazz festivals in Central Europe (Jazz Festival Ljubljana, Südtirol Jazz Festival, Apples & Olives, Jazz Jantar, etc.), leader of original projects, member of various international ensembles (Trokut, Kugelförmigkeit, etc.) and curator of the Jazz Festival and Workshop Jazzinty in Slovenia. Her versatility and unique combination of a diverse musical heritage and influences in her music are making her seen and appreciated in various music scenes. She completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Performing Arts Graz and her master's degree at Jazzcampus in Basel. She currently lives and works in Basel, Switzerland.
