"You had me at unsanctioned mission..."
Just days before the finale of season three of Star Trek: Picard, Trek fans have more to look forward to in an already swollen schedule: Paramount announced this morning that they are moving ahead with Star Trek: Section 31, a Paramount+ movie event starring Academy Award Winner Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), who is reprising her role as Emperor Phillipa Georgiou, from Star Trek: Discovery.
In its press statement, Paramount announced the project as a special original movie event for its streaming service, with only a few details about the plot:
“Emperor Philippa Georgiou joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past.”
When we last saw her (Terra Firma, Pt. II), Georgiou was sent back in time by the Guardian of Forever to an undisclosed location to save her from the effects of temporal dysphasia.

Yeoh commented about the project in the press release, saying,
“Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of Star Trek launched. To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams.”
All of which is incredible news for fans: a spinoff series had been floated, but with production on other series taking up so many resources, many had speculated that the spinoff would never materialize. Especially considering how hot of a commodity Michelle Yeoh is right now, fresh off of her win for Best Actress in Everything Everywhere All At Once and a full slate of projects that will keep her busy over the next few years.
Production is slated to begin later this year.
