Pushing Limits: Hero Workouts and Challenging Your Mental Toughness

Pushing Limits: Hero Workouts and Challenging Your Mental Toughness

Can you push your limits and conquer both physical and mental barriers? This episode is about overcoming extraordinary challenges through our special focus on hero workouts this September. We're paying tribute to the courageous military service members and first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This week, we’ve got a unique lineup that includes one hero workout and a series of WODs that will test your resolve.

This Friday, brace yourself for a different type of challenge—“My Diamond Shoes Are Too Tight.” Imagine carrying a weight for 100-meter, as many times as possible within 30 minutes. Sounds simple? Think again. This isn’t just a test of physical endurance but a trial of mental toughness. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a beginner, this workout will push your limits, much like the infamous “Karen” or “100 Burpee Pull-ups.” Tune in and discover how you can embrace the spirit of CrossFit by stepping outside your comfort zone.

00:00:02.803 --> 00:00:03.584
All right, good morning.

00:00:03.584 --> 00:00:12.096
So it is Monday, september 9th, and I wanted to share a couple things with you briefly today in regards to this week's programming.

00:00:12.096 --> 00:00:13.660
It's a little bit different.

00:00:13.660 --> 00:00:22.605
Now, the month of September, our affiliate programming is going to be a heavy emphasis on hero workouts throughout the month, all right.

00:00:22.605 --> 00:00:36.212
So, being with us for more than a minute, you understand the concept of the hero workout to recognize military service members, first responders, men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty to serve all of us.

00:00:36.212 --> 00:00:38.973
So we take that pretty seriously here.

00:00:38.973 --> 00:00:47.298
So heavy, heavy influence of hero workouts for the month of September, this particular week, and this is why I wanted to do this today.

00:00:47.298 --> 00:00:58.753
All right, one Hero Workout this week, but the remainder of the week peppered with unusual workouts.

00:00:59.054 --> 00:01:03.343
Fun Dare, I use the word quirky.

00:01:03.343 --> 00:01:04.846
A little bit different, though, all right.

00:01:04.846 --> 00:01:12.662
And what I'm asking you is this in the spirit of CrossFit, which is what brings you here as opposed to you know, any other.

00:01:12.662 --> 00:01:16.664
You know fitness options that are on the market, and right now, I mean you.

00:01:16.664 --> 00:01:25.227
You know you look left, look right, and you're going to find a gym of some sort, everything from, you know, a boxing gym, a franchised.

00:01:25.227 --> 00:01:28.893
You know Gucci, boxing gyms, mma gyms, all that.

00:01:28.893 --> 00:01:30.516
Hey, find your groove, find your groove.

00:01:30.516 --> 00:01:31.685
That's all that this is about.

00:01:31.685 --> 00:01:32.986
You know, that's how CrossFit started.

00:01:32.986 --> 00:01:37.868
But what I'm asking you is this no matter what you do, don't cherry pick.

00:01:37.868 --> 00:01:41.370
All right, nobody likes a cherry picker.

00:01:41.370 --> 00:01:47.605
Okay, if we only did the things that we're good at, if we only stayed in our comfort zone, we would not make gains.

00:01:47.605 --> 00:01:50.128
And that's in life, not just in the gym.

00:01:50.128 --> 00:02:00.775
Okay, but a couple kind of different types of workouts today, with names and 20 years in the CrossFit space.

00:02:00.775 --> 00:02:02.343
I've not seen these before.

00:02:02.343 --> 00:02:04.590
But embrace it.

00:02:04.590 --> 00:02:07.362
Embrace the difference, you know, accept the challenge.

00:02:08.064 --> 00:02:12.802
If you look at one of these workouts and at a glance might be like, wow, that's, there's a reason for it.

00:02:12.802 --> 00:02:14.787
There is a method to the madness.

00:02:14.787 --> 00:02:30.331
All right, one of the ones that we will hit you with on Friday and I'm throwing this out now loud and proud, because there will be those among you who will look at it and say, yeah, I can do that at home One, no, you couldn't, more than couldn't you wouldn't.

00:02:30.331 --> 00:02:36.504
Some of these are workouts that are going to test you on a completely different level, mentally as well as physically.

00:02:36.504 --> 00:02:37.086
All right.

00:02:37.086 --> 00:02:41.521
Friday's workout is called my Diamond Shoes Are Too Tight.

00:02:41.521 --> 00:02:43.945
No idea what that means?

00:02:43.945 --> 00:02:47.271
All right, but a 30-minute clock.

00:02:47.872 --> 00:03:01.305
We will complete as many reps as possible of a plate carry, single plate that we will carry for 100 meters, all right, confirm that that is correct knowledge.

00:03:01.305 --> 00:03:04.411
Every 100 meters right, 30 minutes continuous.

00:03:04.411 --> 00:03:07.443
Every 100 meters equals one repetition, okay.

00:03:07.443 --> 00:03:22.871
So as much as a physical challenge, it's a mental challenge to keep going for 30 minutes carrying your burden, all right, your weight, so prescribed athletes 45 to 55 pounds.

00:03:22.871 --> 00:03:29.508
You can carry this any way you choose Intermediate, 35 to 45.

00:03:29.508 --> 00:03:38.180
And then, beginners, plate carry or medicine ball 10 to 15 pounds.

00:03:38.180 --> 00:03:40.388
Rest two minutes before starting a new lap.

00:03:41.061 --> 00:03:43.366
So in that 30, you do your 100 out and your hundred.

00:03:43.366 --> 00:03:47.141
You know out and back or around a track or wherever.

00:03:47.141 --> 00:03:54.287
Wherever your hundred is, um, at beginner level, you know you can exercise common sense as well as uh, stamina and endurance.

00:03:54.287 --> 00:03:56.091
You take a, do that a hundred.

00:03:56.091 --> 00:03:57.282
You'll take a two minute recovery.

00:03:57.282 --> 00:03:58.366
You'll hit your next round.

00:03:58.366 --> 00:04:04.645
For our extent, intermediate Break when you need to, but for every 100 meters is one repetition.

00:04:05.134 --> 00:04:10.706
This is as much of a mental workout as it is a physical workout.

00:04:10.706 --> 00:04:11.669
It's a grinder.

00:04:11.669 --> 00:04:18.865
All right, those of you who have been with us long enough to have done Karen, 150 wall balls for time.

00:04:18.865 --> 00:04:27.598
Single movement All right, it will wear you down mentally as well as physically 100 burpees, 100 burpee pull-ups.

00:04:27.598 --> 00:04:30.363
Similarly, it's testing your mettle.

00:04:30.363 --> 00:04:42.100
All right, and I will tell you this nowadays very few of us can actually say that they continue, if they ever had their mettle tested, that they continue to do so.

00:04:42.100 --> 00:04:45.952
All right, try it, you will not be disappointed.

00:04:45.952 --> 00:04:46.213
Right?

00:04:46.213 --> 00:04:49.122
You're going to do things that you know maybe you never considered.

00:04:49.122 --> 00:04:51.406
All right, so think about that.

00:04:51.855 --> 00:04:56.403
It's an unusual, unorthodox week here in the CrossFit universe.

00:04:56.403 --> 00:04:59.956
Tomorrow, strategy is for squares.

00:04:59.956 --> 00:05:02.401
It's an interesting workout, right.

00:05:02.401 --> 00:05:05.629
45 minute, 45 second, god forbid.

00:05:05.629 --> 00:05:06.310
45 second.

00:05:06.310 --> 00:05:11.221
Max calorie row 15 second transition 30 second toes to bar.

00:05:11.221 --> 00:05:13.766
The name of this workout is strategy is for squares.

00:05:13.766 --> 00:05:20.927
Basically, it's kind of tempting you, taunting you throw strategy out the window and hit it hard.

00:05:20.927 --> 00:05:26.492
Right, got some good workouts, some innovative and kind of crazy fun workouts this week.

00:05:26.492 --> 00:05:33.254
All right, don't be a cherry picker, give it a try, push yourself a little bit out of your comfort zone.

00:05:33.254 --> 00:05:34.317
That's it.

00:05:34.317 --> 00:05:36.180
Okay, that's all I've got today.

00:05:36.180 --> 00:05:37.925
It is monday, it is september 9th.

00:05:37.925 --> 00:05:41.418
All right, um, work hard this week.

00:05:41.418 --> 00:05:46.226
All right, work hard this week, and, uh, we will see you at the gym.
