Team Coins, Morale Patches and Other Cool-Guy Things

Team Coins, Morale Patches and Other Cool-Guy Things

Join us on a sentimental journey to my childhood days as we honor the military service of Vietnam veteran, Ken, through his distinctive patches - a tangible testament to his courage and time served. My longtime friend and Ken’s wife, Mary, generously shared these precious mementos with us. We delve into the significance of these patches, particularly the Vietnam and Ranger tabs, and discuss Ken's time as a Ranger during the Vietnam War.

We also reflect on the notable work of the Wounded Warrior Foundation, an organization close to our hearts. It's been an honor to contribute to this foundation through various fundraisers over the years. We particularly reminisce about our participation in the intense yet rewarding Fight Gone Bad Challenge. Additionally, we share Greg Glassman's insightful words on why this cause holds such importance. We wrap up by acknowledging the recently concluded Army-Navy game, a salute to the unwavering spirit of our brave service men and women. Tune in for an episode rich in nostalgia, camaraderie, and gratitude.

00:00:01.122 --> 00:00:08.263
Alright, one of the things I wanted to do on our podcast was involve little audience participation.

00:00:08.263 --> 00:00:33.212
So I put out some topics that I thought might be fun, and one of the first ones I did just based on some of the things I have here in the studio, I thought it would be cool Military government everybody has team coins or patches or things like that memorabilia.

00:00:33.212 --> 00:00:44.191
So I put it out I think it was on Facebook and I said, hey, if anybody has any patches they'd like to share, send them in and I'd be glad to give them a shout out.

00:00:44.191 --> 00:00:51.286
So I want to do this a little bit more in depth when we actually launch, but I thought it would be kind of cool.

00:00:51.286 --> 00:00:54.448
This is very cool for me personally.

00:00:54.448 --> 00:01:08.212
These come from a dear friend of mine who I went to elementary school, whom I attended elementary school with at St Rayfield's Go Raiders.

00:01:08.212 --> 00:01:13.784
Actually, I don't think St Rayfield's exists anymore I mean the saint himself.

00:01:13.784 --> 00:01:21.269
He exists, but I think the school closed down a couple years ago, but that's another topic.

00:01:21.269 --> 00:01:32.531
But anyway, mary and I have been friends since elementary school, all through high school, and people grow up, go their separate ways and whatnot.

00:01:32.531 --> 00:01:44.748
So when I put that out, she responded and she said hey, my husband, ken, served in Vietnam as a ranger, so I thought that was awesome.

00:01:44.748 --> 00:01:56.055
So I received these patches recently, the Vietnam tab, which I think is very, very cool.

00:01:56.055 --> 00:02:12.844
It was a little bit before our time, especially as it pertains to the ability to serve, but Ken was a ranger in Vietnam, so in addition to the Vietnam tab, she sent a ranger tab, which is extremely cool.

00:02:12.844 --> 00:02:24.364
I have a lot of friends who came from Ranger Regiment, but none except Ken who I know that actually served in Vietnam.

00:02:24.364 --> 00:02:29.348
Very, very cool, and also I had never seen one of these before.

00:02:29.608 --> 00:02:41.564
But this is one of the groups that we do fundraisers for throughout the year the Wounded Warrior Foundation and I do remember a dear friend.

00:02:41.564 --> 00:02:46.532
Years ago we used to do a fundraiser.

00:02:46.532 --> 00:02:50.288
Fight Gone Bad was a benchmark CrossFit workout.

00:02:50.288 --> 00:02:54.021
It's a bit of a soul crusher and we would do this.

00:02:54.021 --> 00:02:55.444
First year, I believe.

00:02:55.444 --> 00:03:05.389
Actually the first year we did it was for our grand opening and at that time it was to benefit athletes for a cure.

00:03:07.280 --> 00:03:28.588
Shortly after that, greg Glassman actually switched over to the Wounded Warrior Foundation and I remember him saying this I think it was at a level one course and I just thought it was brilliant, it really resonated with me and I'm going to paraphrase this, otherwise I'll butcher it.

00:03:28.588 --> 00:03:33.091
But he, basically he was asked why did we switch over?

00:03:33.091 --> 00:03:42.861
Why did we go from the athletes for a cure and now we're supporting the Wounded Warrior Foundation, which there's no such thing as a stupid question.

00:03:42.861 --> 00:03:48.810
But Greg's answer I thought was just awesome.

00:03:48.810 --> 00:04:00.188
I thought it was right to the point and what he said was he said the athletes for a cure has a lot of support, a lot of support, and he said the Wounded Warrior Foundation.

00:04:00.188 --> 00:04:14.362
And he summed it up and he said let me just put it to you this way he said if a child has to grow up without a parent because they lost that parent due to natural causes, that is sad, that's very sad.

00:04:14.362 --> 00:04:20.168
If a child has to grow up because they lost a parent in war, that's a tragedy.

00:04:20.168 --> 00:04:21.872
And that was it.

00:04:21.872 --> 00:04:22.833
The rest is history.

00:04:23.339 --> 00:04:36.348
So for every year we did the Fight Gone Bad Challenge If I'm not mistaken, I think it was early September that we would do that Raised a lot of money over the years for a very, very good cause.

00:04:36.348 --> 00:04:39.288
So I've never saw a patch like that before.

00:04:39.288 --> 00:04:44.310
So thank you very much, mary and Ken, and thank you for your service.

00:04:44.310 --> 00:04:49.730
I'd say Go Navy, beat Army, but that ship has sailed, no pun intended.

00:04:49.730 --> 00:04:52.882
It was a great game, so until next year.

00:04:52.882 --> 00:04:56.107
Congratulations, army, all right, thank you.
