Thanks again to Dr Jonathan for another enlightening and thought provoking episode! ERG’s are great at creating and maintaining affinity groups in organisations and lend themselves well to autonomy, but we should not lose sight of the fact they do need ongoing support and checking in by administrators of their organizations’ D&I oversight mechanism(s). It’s easy for them to be seen as a resource ‘for the public good’ to be used and abused by freeriders. A pivot in focus re inclusion as business strategy verses as public good ensures that existing systemic inequalities that D&I initiatives are tasked with dismantling are not inadvertently further entrenched by freeridership.
