About

Follow me, Gerry "Dry Toast" as I search for the facts behind many of history's famous situations, especially those involving religion, science, historic events and battles, and philosophy. And we have a little fun along the way.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your host (me) Gerry "Dry Toast", also known by police as Toast, Toastie, Your Toastness and frankly any variation on this absurd theme, is a hardcore fan of history and all it entails. You can't dig into history in any detail without also forging into science, religion, philosophy and politics so down the rabbit hole I go on your behalf...okay, and maybe I get a bit of enjoyment out of it as well - maybe.

Here I am on my favorite chair in my favorite pose. I spend a little too much time on this chair and, at times, have to be pried out of it with a 6' long pry bar and a hammer

Dry Toast's Favorite Chairas I have become a little too attached to it, physically and emotionally.

First question, why don't I use my full name? Well, as if this podcast and golf don't keep me busy enough, I am still active in the real estate world (both transactionally as well as an industry instructor in the field of ethics), and I actually have a real estate podcast as well. Just to keep the two of them separate so there is no confusion, I just use the stupid pen name Dry Toast on this podcast.

Now Dry Toast is actually a play on my real name, which is so long and confusing it gets regularly slaughtered vocally and in spelling, but I have sprinkled it about here and there so if one day you are completely bored and have no grass to watch grow or sheep to count, you could search about to find it.
That said, I really enjoy producing this podcast, and hopefully one day soon it will support me (hint hint) to the point where I can retire from real estate and do this exclusively. Then I can finally stop the silly name game and use my full name here, so that you can be fully confused and pronounce it horribly as well.

But enough about me ;-) let's get back to The Fact of The Matter. Some thirty years ago, curiosity got the better of me and I began studying history and philosophy. This branched off into other things including science and religion and one day, on a complete whim, I started to wonder what the life of Jesus was like. I mean, where did he live, who were his family and friends, what was Nazareth like, and all that stuff. I went off to the library and took out a book about Jesus that ended up being a completely revisionist (and clearly silly) version of who Jesus was and what his mission/beliefs were.
In my naivete, I was surprised anyone would write something so obviously concocted and false, and amazed anyone would believe it. I then decided to go on a quest to read as many books as I could arguing for and against religion, and see where the facts led me.
Well, long story even longer, that led me to where I am today. It is amazing how many of the events of history, religion, science, politics and philosophy have been twisted to fit the authors' narratives. To be serious for a moment, I find this appalling. It is bad enough we all argue on topics about which we know not nearly enough, but for someone to purposely twist the facts to fit their views is reprehensible.
I make every attempt to minimize and remove my biases from my research so that we can both know the facts of the matter. I mean, what else am I going to do? I suck at golf, so I may as well do this.

I hope you enjoy it.
