Shadow work.... What is it? What is it good for? Do you have a reoccurring triggering issue that you just can't shake? You can be thinking, "Where is this coming from?", "What is going on in my mind?!"
It may feel like there is really nothing that you could be mad at or sad for but there it is!! That itching feeling again and again.
For me I started doing it without even knowing I was doing it. Digging deep into where these triggers initiate. It makes you vulnerable with yourself and heals from the deep dark inside out. The results can be shocking!! I found myself giving up a lot of my anxiety, depression, self criticizing thought patterns, judgement and much more. So what is it exactly?
Shadow work is a psychological and spiritual practice that involves exploring and integrating the aspects of ourselves that we have repressed, denied, or disowned. It's basically a concept that every individual possesses a shadow, which consists of the parts of our personality that we deem unacceptable or undesirable. These shadow aspects often stem from childhood experiences, societal conditioning, or cultural influences. Engaging in shadow work allows us to confront and heal these hidden aspects, leading to personal growth, self-awareness, and a deeper understanding of ourselves. Who wouldn't want that?
The primary reason for undertaking shadow work is to achieve wholeness and integration within ourselves. By acknowledging and accepting our shadow aspects, we can release the energy that has been tied up in suppressing them. This process enables us to reclaim lost parts of ourselves, leading to increased self-compassion, self-acceptance, and self-love. Shadow work also helps us to identify patterns and behaviors that may be holding us back or causing suffering in our lives. By shining a light on these aspects, we can transform them and cultivate a healthier and more authentic way of being.
Furthermore, shadow work allows us to develop a greater sense of empathy and understanding towards others. As we explore our own shadow, we become more aware of the complexities and contradictions within human nature. This heightened awareness helps us to recognize and empathize with the shadow aspects in others, fostering compassion and reducing judgment. By integrating our shadow, we can cultivate healthier relationships, improve communication, and contribute to a more harmonious and compassionate society. Overall, shadow work is a transformative journey that leads to personal growth, self-acceptance, and a deeper connection with ourselves and others.
Shadow work does wonders for your mental health. We all have darkness looming where we can't even see it. How awful!! Good news is that is you do the work you feel so much freedom!! It's like a weight has been lifted off of you back. I find myself being so much more forgiving of others. I don't snap into defense mode or intrusive thoughts really ever anymore. (But still sometimes) Healing is an ever growing journey but I wanted to share with you one of my secret tools that is not so secret anymore that I still use to this day!!
