Mark and Barbara Nelson

Unlike your typical all-American Nelsons, Mark and Barbara are the Para-Nelsons—a leading husband and wife paranormal investigative couple.
Mark is a talented psychic medium who discovered his ability after the murder of his father. It happened when Mark was 11. His father, Robert “Bobby,” was killed in a notorious Mafia bar in Brooklyn.
About a month before his father died, Bobby woke up in the middle of the night and told his wife, Mark’s mom, “Bernie,” that if anything happened to him, their mutual friend, “George,” would be perfect for her. Bernie told him to stop talking about this—because he’s a healthy 33-year-old father of 6 children. Then one month later, Bobby was dead, and within a year of his death, Bernie married their friend George. So at some level, Bobby had seen some of this coming.
After the funeral, Mark and his five brothers and sisters were told to return to a “normal” life. In other words, no more moping around—and get back to school. Unfortunately, the suddenness and violence of Bobby’s passing gave no one a chance to be prepared for life after Dad. We were all shaken, to our very core, by not only his loss but the idea that God would allow his vicious murder to happen. It literally shattered our ability to feel secure, happy and at a basic level, know we would survive. We also didn’t speak to counselors or clergy. There were none to be found. The grownups drank and cried. We cried and pretended everything was fine.
A few weeks later, in October, Mark’s mother asked him to rake the leaves piling up in the front yard. As Mark raked, he saw his father in the driveway. Mark thought I was losing my mind. But his Dad smiled and told Mark he was all right, and his family would be okay too. Scared by his presence, Mark told his Dad to go away. And Bobby’s spirit did go away until one night about 25 years later.
Mark was walking, thinking about his dad and wishing his father could have met his wife, Barbara, and their daughter, Katie. That’s when Mark heard, “I have.” From then on, Mark began receiving messages, developing his skills, and working as a psychic medium and paranormal investigator.
Barbara combines her own psychic sensitivity with knowledge of paranormal investigating equipment. This enables her to “follow her own leads” and validate her information with a variety of paranormal investigating equipment.
Barbara’s awareness of spirits began when she was a little girl—seeing spirits hovering in her bedroom’s doorway. These appearances may be related to her two older sisters who used an Ouija board and brought Barbara to a spiritualist church led by Kenny Kingston, Marilyn Monroe’s personal psychic. Beyond these experiences, Barb has worked as an art director and designer for several world-renowned entertainment companies.
Through the use of advanced technologies at these companies, Barbara became skilled in mastering software, cameras, and related equipment. This proved to be an ideal background for developing expertise in paranormal investigative technology.
Mark and Barbara have been compared to the famous ghost-hunting couple Ed and Lorraine Warren. Unlike the Warrens, Mark is the psychic medium, and Barb is the lead technical investigator.
Together, Mark and Barbara have worked with SYFY’s Ghost Hunters, Haunted History, and Paranormal Witness. They are also long-time members of Pacific Coast Paranormal. Mark also won a psychic competition for FOX TV called “Gifted.”
From having doors slam in their faces, seeing objects move, and hearing disembodied voices, Mark and Barb have a history of hair-raising, paranormal experiences.
