Original podcast release: October 9, 2022
Carmen and Sergio are shamans in Peru, guiding seekers through a spiritual journey through ayahuasca ceremonies. They are also parents to three teenage children. The new documentary, The Sacred Family, follows Carmen, Sergio, and their children on a thousand mile road trip into the Amazon to find balance in their lives. Against the backdrop of honoring the sacredness to be found in life, the family also experiences the all-too-familiar encroachment of the addictions of modern life in terms of technology - smartphones, video games, and Netflix. This film highlights the stark dichotomy of the modern world and ancient wisdom and spirituality.
It was a joy to connect with Carmen and the film's creator, Borja, during the debut of The Sacred Family at a Scottish film festival. We talk about the tension between family life and spiritual growth, the dangers of the exploding demand for ayahuasca for the influx of Westerners flooding to Peru, and so much more!
