SPEAKER03: What? Carolina passes way too much. Yeah, they're all sitting there right in front, and they pass it.
SPEAKER07: Yeah, we got to step. We got to put ones right in. Hello, Pittsburgh.
null: Hello. Hello.
SPEAKER_06: Welcome to the Sports Porch Black and Gold. That is the Sports Porch Pittsburgh. We are live all over the friggin world. We are live on Instagram. We are live on YouTube. We are live on X. We are live on, did I say LinkedIn, Facebook? I got them all. I got them all. Sure did. And also right after the show, we do drop the podcast. As you can see in the ticker, if you're watching live, we drop the podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, Spotify, or anywhere you get your frigging podcasts. And, uh, follow us on YouTube, of course, uh, at the sports porch podcast. So welcome to the show. Hey guys. Um, just a quick note, uh, kind of a sad week for us. Uh, we found out, uh, who we would consider right now. You're all our number one fans, all our number one fans, but, um, want to send condolences to, uh, DG and his family. DG hadn't, uh, watched the show for about three weeks. And I found out earlier this week. Then, unfortunately, he passed away peacefully in his sleep, and that's a big loss. He was a great fan. He was a great guy. I communicated with him outside the show. He sent us all kinds of really our costumes and stuff, and he was always engaged. I mean, man, just having one fan like him was worth it. And so we're dedicating this show to DG tonight. Yep. This is for you, DG. This is for you, DG. One quick comment I want to get in there. You can also always listen to our radio station, Radio PGH. You can stream the show. I'm putting that link in the comments. If you don't want to watch and you just want to listen, you can tune into Radio PGH at any time. Uh, we have a bunch of shows coming up there. I'm running two different off the grid podcast marathons, one on Friday, one on Sundays, uh, we'll be bringing off the grid back and we're going to be doing some other stuff there as the days go by.
Chris: So that being said, time for some sport, it is time, time for the buckers report on the sports sports podcast, the much Ballyhoo debut of Paul schemes. I want to know.
SPEAKER_03: By the way, a little, little, uh, item of note. Uh, did you know that the, the, the LSU gymnast, uh, Olivia Dunn. Livvy Dunn. Is dating Paul Skeens now.
SPEAKER_06: Gee, I hadn't heard that. I hadn't heard that at all.
SPEAKER_03: Well, I knew last year, uh, she was dating Alec Boehm of the Phillies.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah. Well, I mean, obviously Paul Skeens has a faster pitch. She likes ballplayers. There you go.
SPEAKER_07: She likes the balls.
SPEAKER_06: I don't blame her. He's like seven feet tall and she's like, how tall actually?
SPEAKER_03: And you know, she's pretty petite. It was actually kind of interesting because I put three because I, you know, obviously that work. Obviously she's a, she's obviously beautiful, right? Yeah. She's, she's a good looking girl. So I had, so I had to take a look. I had to take a look and boy, Paul, Paul skeins is not good looking at all.
SPEAKER_07: No, his mustache is horrible, but it's a look.
SPEAKER_03: I think even without the mustache, he's unattractive. Really? Well, I think he looks worse without the mustache. It just goes to show you, you're the number one pick in MLB and plenty of people are going to go out with you.
SPEAKER_07: Dude, Travis Kelsey could get paid or Swift.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah. This is all you need to know. It's all about the money, guys. It's all about the money.
SPEAKER_07: It's about the money.
SPEAKER_06: I did hear those mustaches are coming back though. Mustaches are back.
SPEAKER_03: Yeah. Yeah. Well, it's not terrible. I just feel bad for children.
Chris: Yeah All right, the pirate is here for the buckos report is Paul skeins really the answer what do you guys think Yeah, he's the answer.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah the answer to what?
SPEAKER_07: Well, he's the answer to getting 10,000 more people in the seats.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah. Is that what the, you pulled up some stats on the attendance?
SPEAKER_07: So they, they were averaging about 24, 25,000 on Saturday games. Uh, and in Chicago came into town, they put in skeins and it was 34, 924. So 35,000, not a sellout. You can, you can fit 38,000 in that sucker. Um, so, you know, he didn't quite sell out. Um, Uh, probably the thunderstorms kept the 3000 people away.
SPEAKER_06: That's I was just absolutely so shocked that that game lasted as long as it did. I mean, call the damn game. I mean, holy hell.
SPEAKER_07: Um, it was like a six hour game, but I mean, this is, this is why he's up. He's up because, you know, now they can play him. They can't keep him any longer. So you might as well play your guy. And, you know, he didn't have a great debut, no offense to him. I mean, he did strike out two of the first three batters, which was good, but he only struck out seven. And then he kind of fell apart there in the fifth. I don't know what they were doing there in the in in the last inning that he was in. Like, why did they even bring him out? Like, if they weren't going to let him pitch that out to try and get out of a jam just to see what he can do. Right. What's the point? Like you're, he's there to learn, right? Like, and it was clear, like he threw a lot of pitches, right? Like 117 pitches. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
SPEAKER_06: He did walk two people. Well, I guess the lesson here is… Yeah, the last two people, right?
SPEAKER_07: Because then they ended up walking six runs in.
SPEAKER_06: Right. Well, he struck out the first guy he faced and everybody went crazy. But the thing is, once again, You know, here we have a franchise that the only way they can fill the stadium is to bring up a much-Ballyhooed prospect in Paul Skeens, who everybody hopes to God is the second coming of, you know, Roger Clemens without the steroids. I mean, I think I just think it's I just think it's wrong. It's wrong for the it's wrong to do the fans.
SPEAKER_07: I mean, schemes is major league baseball wants it to this. Of course, they want they want to see their number one pick be a success in the major league. Sure. So, I mean, this is this is what happens. It becomes a dog and pony show. And then we'll see what he does his next four starts. That's it. That's really what it comes down to. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06: Well, all this talk. You know what, Robert, you look like you want to say something. So please.
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, for me, well, look, I'm glad he's up and I'm glad he's pitching because we want to see some quality baseball up here, right? Unfortunately, and I don't want to be the downer, but it's almost like what's it all for anyway. That's exactly. I mean, it's just, it just sort of feels like, okay, so best case scenario, he's Garrett Cole. And then he goes win a world series for the Yankees in five years. That's right. Or Atlanta, you know, whoever. Right. So that's the thing that's just kind of frustrating about it. I just kind of wish that we knew like, okay, you know, they can build around this guy and they're going to keep them.
SPEAKER_06: Well, I think the point is they're not keeping it right. I think the point is more like, and I wouldn't say it about schemes yet because he has one start at the major league level. The proof is in the pudding. But you take a guy like Jared Jones and if he continues to deliver 90% of what he's been doing and then schemes is as advertised, yes, you can build around those guys. That's the point. Yeah, and they have the money to build around those guys. That's even worse.
SPEAKER_07: You can spend as much money as you want in a major league.
SPEAKER_06: I know that's what I'm saying. And, you know, so as as buckos fans, it really it's almost insulting to be played like this by ownership year after year after year after year because you're being played. That's what's happening. You're being played. And then all of the, all of the, the, the, uh, associated sports media outlets, because they're the insiders, they get the locker room access. They got to play along. You know, if they talk the way we did, if they talk the way I did, they wouldn't let them in the locker room. Right. My point is, I don't give a shit about the locker room. I don't want to go in the locker room. I don't care what Paul Skeens eats for dinner or what what what restaurant he's going to take Livy done to in Pittsburgh or where did they go? Or I have no idea. Or I don't know if they think Pittsburgh is a good foodie or craft beer. I don't give a shit about that. What I want to do is I want to be able to buy tickets to PNC Park and I want to see real friggin baseball. This is a rant. That's right. It's a rant. I want to see real baseball. The fans deserve it. I don't care if you're running the team like a business. I don't care how many ballparks you build for underprivileged kids around the city of Pittsburgh. It's a great thing. You should do it. But every team does it. Right. Every team does it. You have generations now of Pittsburgh Pirates fans that have followed this team and pinned their hopes and dreams on a championship for this team and have listened to the bullshit spouted by the ownership, the management and everybody else constantly over and over and over. And here we all are. We all are again with another incredible first round draft pick. We don't have to talk about Henry Davis being a bust. Lots of draft picks are bust. But here we are with a guy who is going to save the franchise. You put this all on his shoulders, you tease us again, and then you shove it right up our ass. And that's what I'm afraid is going to happen.
SPEAKER_03: I'm afraid too. I'm not afraid.
SPEAKER_07: I know that's what's going to happen.
SPEAKER_06: That's exactly right. That's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_07: There's nothing to be afraid of. That's exactly what's going to happen.
SPEAKER_06: Listen, if you want to send a message, Pirates fans, seriously, if you want to send a message that you want a winner, grow up and stop going down to the ballpark when Paul Skeens pitches. He's starting to sound like me. No offense. Absolutely. No offense to Paul Skeens. All right. He worked his ass off to become a major league player. And I'm sure he's grateful. And I'm sure that he's going to say he sounds he seems like a pretty mature guy. And he's obviously a talented pitcher. No offense to him or anybody else playing in the pirate system. But if you want to send a message, stop falling for this bait and switch bullshit. That's what it is. It's bait and switch Bullshit. And I'm so sick and tired of hearing, well, PNC Park is the most beautiful park in the major leagues. No, it's not. Yeah, it is. It has a losing record. All right. You want a beautiful park? You didn't say a winning park. You said a beautiful park.
SPEAKER_03: But you understand what I'm saying. The park is more beautiful when you win.
SPEAKER_06: That exactly right. And you know what? We don't understand. Guess what, guys? Guess what, Pittsburgh Pirates fans? You're so lucky because we're going to bring up Paul Skeens this year. And we're also going to introduce a huge hot dog with pierogies all over it. And you should be fucking thankful. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_07: Screw that. I gotta get that hot.
SPEAKER_03: Wow. Screw that. This may be your best rant in a long time. Thank you very much. I'd like to see this go viral worldwide.
SPEAKER_06: Really? Well, nah. It probably won't because there's not enough Pirates fans watching.
SPEAKER_07: There are too many Pirates fans that have lived through this and are apathetic to it. I hear you speak, and I understand your words, and I understand your anger, but I've had this anger for 30 years now, and there's no way to get around it. We got bamboozled when the owner sold us, we're going to have the best team in baseball, I'm going to put money out on there once you build my new stadium, and he's never done it. And yet, he continues to own the team. So I'm 100% behind getting nutting the hell out of there. And then I would get a little bit more excited about skeins. But all that being said, I'd rather get excited about Livy Dunn and finding out where she's going to eat. I have a better chance of being in that space than I do at PNC Park and seeing them.
SPEAKER_06: For a championship game, you mean?
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, right. Because that's just not going to happen with this ownership. And everybody knows it. But you have to accept that if you want to be a Pirates fan with this ownership group. That's what you have to accept. And this is the second time around for it. So we'll see if people get, you know, number one pick fatigue. And they may.
SPEAKER_06: I think we already have to be honest.
SPEAKER_07: Well, I mean, we did already with Henry Davis. Wasn't he a number one pick? He was a one.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
SPEAKER_07: So where is he now? Batting 173. And they sent him down. They said, yeah, because he's not very good now. And they mishandled him last year. Completely. So, I mean, this is I'm I'm I'm I'm thankful that you have this rant because I love it. But I just I I have no emotion towards this subject anymore.
SPEAKER_06: Well, and that's the thing is I want to do the buckos report because I enjoy doing it. I enjoy playing the pirate. I enjoy, you know, I, I like it, but what am I going to talk about?
SPEAKER_07: Well, you know, you could talk about the math behind it.
SPEAKER_06: Brian Reynolds is batting two 33 crews. God bless him. He must've heard my rant about him a couple of weeks ago.
SPEAKER_03: Come on, two 65 everywhere.
SPEAKER_06: Triolo, who I loved as a defensive guy, is a disappointment. Hayes, disappointment. Connor Joe, 292, having the year of his career. Cewinski, disappointment. Kutch, retire, please. Thank you for your service.
SPEAKER_03: Retire. What does that say if Connor Joe is your best player?
SPEAKER_06: Exactly. And Pat on track. They don't have any hitting. They couldn't, they couldn't get rate. They couldn't wait to get rid of Kutch after the MVP. I hate this ownership and I'm a fan, right? You're a Phillies fan. I understand. Yeah. You know, rowdy to Les, what in God's name was that? Okay, please. Um, I'm not even show weird one. I know. Yasmani Grandel. I mean, come on, give me a break. All right. They bring Gonzalez up now. This this franchise, as far as the kind of franchise that fans can get behind, is in complete disarray and shambles. Yeah. And there is nothing redeeming about it at all except the ballpark. Okay, I'd rather watch them win Playing in a little league field then go down to PNC Park and be handed a freaking $6 coke and a $10 hot dog and sit there and waste my money on this ridiculous product They're putting on the field and the bullshit promises they've made and listen people can say well Ben Charrington's hands are tied Well, then why did you take the job?
SPEAKER_07: you know, because he's getting paid, right?
SPEAKER_06: Of course I get it. There's a lot of, there's a lot of obvious things going on here. It's a job. It's, it is, it is absolutely ridiculously frustrating.
SPEAKER_03: Um, as a baseball, beautiful park does need to be power wash.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah. And it needs a new name, because the PNC is up. I don't know why they're not buying the new logo. I gotta figure that out.
SPEAKER_03: Well, actually, that's kind of interesting. I mean, is it that nobody wants to buy it?
SPEAKER_07: Everybody was still gonna call it PNC, so why pay for it?
SPEAKER_03: Well, I don't know. I mean, people don't call it Heinz Field anymore.
SPEAKER_07: No, they don't.
SPEAKER_03: They call it Acresure.
SPEAKER_07: Except for the shirts that say, I still call it Heinz.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and then they probably call it Acresure because they're wearing the shirt. Yeah, I have no idea. You know, that's a corporate thing. I mean, I'm sure there's companies that would love to put their name on PNC Park.
SPEAKER_07: I'm surprised that the Nuttings don't want that money. Yeah, or can't get that money. They seem to be able to get it out of the taxpayers, right? They can't seem to get it out of corporate America. It's right. Surprising.
SPEAKER_03: Well, you screwed the taxpayers. I think that has something to do with the product on the field.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, absolutely. It does. You know?
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
SPEAKER_06: Do you want to be associated with a perennial loser?
SPEAKER_07: By the way, this same situations playing out in Kansas City with their new stadium. So it'll be interesting to see what happens if they decide to screw the taxpayer and build it anyways, or if Kansas City actually does move across the river, or maybe the San Antonio.
SPEAKER_03: I think they are going to move across the river. I think that's the last plan that I heard.
SPEAKER_07: Well, well, that's what they're saying. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_03: They're trying to.
SPEAKER_07: And let's face it, all franchises do that because even the penguins said, well, we're going to have to move to Kansas City. Right. And they had a nice stadium and, you know, eventually everybody caved and, you know, we built three stadiums and now they're 20 years old and they're going to want new ones in 10 years. Well, and the old ones aren't paid for yet.
SPEAKER_06: Right. We were, we were, you know, Mitch Keller leads, Mitch Keller leads this team and wins with three. Okay. And, uh, yes, yes, yes. Yeah. Jared Jones is Jared Jones is two and four. Uh, and, uh, support. Yeah. Bailey Falter is three and two. I mean, this is just, it's just not something that I, I just, I can't get behind it. And, and it makes me angrier and angrier.
SPEAKER_07: Well, I did talk to somebody who went to the game and actually gave money to the nuttings. Would you like to hear his opinion on what, what, um, please look like. Lay it on us. So Scott went, yeah, he's a, he's a, he's probably about as big of a baseball fan as you can get to be in Pittsburgh because he moved away for 25 years and didn't have to deal with bullshit. We know. Right. Right. So now that he's back, he, you know, he went down to the game with his boy. I think maybe both of them. Anyway, he said he was fired. Like in the, in the first inning, you're talking about schemes.
Chris: Yeah.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah. He looked great. You know, everything looked good. And then he said the team, not so much. Right. You know, so it's like they got to get it. They got to find a way to get it all together if they're going to keep getting people to go down there other than the schemes pit.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah. Yeah. And that leads us to the whole six man rotation. Right. Please. I mean, come on. What in the hell are you doing? I mean, I get pitch counts, innings, you know, but honestly, Skeens is not the kind of guy that I think needs a pitch count. And I don't think he needs an innings count. I think he's the kind of guy that wants to go up there and ball. He wants to throw, he wants to dish, you know, he wants to win baseball games. Jared Jones, he wants to win baseball games. I heard an interview on the fan.
SPEAKER_07: I talked to their buddies. They play Fortnite.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they play Fortnite. I heard that interview. But I heard an interview on the fan with a guy who is a Pittsburgh Pirates beat writer. I'm going to make him nameless because I wasn't interviewing. But this is what he said. He said when Garrett Cole came to the Pirates and he was pretty much a touted rookie, they brought him up. And he interviewed Garrett Cole and Garrett said to him, uh, you know, the pirates in, in my, it's my understanding, the pirates have never had like the franchise pitcher. Like you go back in pirates history, Dave Parker, Willie Stargell, um, you know, Barry Bonds, but there's not like the closest, but there's, there's not like an, an, an, you know, a household name who was associated as a pirate's pitcher. Candelaria. And right.
SPEAKER_07: Maybe Candyman.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but nobody outside of Pittsburgh. Everybody knew to Colvey though. Right, right. Just because of his pitching. And he's so weird looking. But the whole thing about it was, there's not that household name. There's not that lore of pirates pitching. And the writer said, no, there's not. And Garrett Cole said, well, yeah, I'd like to be that guy. And he could, and he could have been. And the sports writer, the sports writer told him his rookie year, he said, well, Garrett, I'm sorry to tell you, but you're not going to be that guy. Yeah. Because you're not going to be here three years from now. And he wasn't. Yeah. Okay. So when you got the beat writers that are telling the rookies, don't even consider being the guy, just get yours here and move on to the next contract. You know, you have lost the base. And this is like 12 years ago. Yeah. So, you know, what is what is Pat on track prior Strasburg throwing too hard spin rate? These guys are getting rid. Yeah, of course. We know all about that, Pat. We do. But but this is not about that. This is about, you know, OK, fine. You've got control of schemes for the next three years. Right. So what do you do? What do you do?
SPEAKER_03: Him and Jared, there's only one thing you can do and that's just to make him a good bunch of good picks and hope that honestly like Seriously, you know when Garrett Cole was good in pitching for the Pirates and they had that that nice little like three-year run when McCutcheon was an MVP level you basically had a bunch of Young kids all got good at the same time, right? Mm-hmm. So it's really if you look at it this way, it's Paul Skeens is the first one. And you pretty much need like your number one pick the next two years to be balls out. Right. And if that doesn't happen, then it won't go anywhere.
SPEAKER_07: Well, remember, they also got A.J. Burnett, right? So they went and got a pitcher.
SPEAKER_06: That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_07: Who also could fill in that spot and was a kind of a presence in the locker room and was kind of a badass.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, or you go out and you sign somebody, and this team needs somebody who can swing the stick.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, they gotta get somebody who's a threat at the plate.
SPEAKER_06: They actually probably need two of those people.
SPEAKER_07: Or probably three, but we'll take one.
SPEAKER_06: Well, I'm assuming that O'Neal Cruz can… Well, I'm assuming that O'Neill Cruz can work out his issues at the plate. And he has been. It looks like he's coming around. Yeah. And then maybe at that point, you know, Brian Reynolds has a little bit more protection and he can be the player, the average to above average player. Right.
SPEAKER_07: But that's what they need to go out and get a really, really, really good first baseman. Like no shit. All star caliber. First, a guy who can hit 40 home runs. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06: Not a guy who could drink 40 Miller lights.
SPEAKER_07: Well, I mean, that's fun, too. Yeah. Especially if you're with Libby Dunn. But yeah, if you're not, then, you know, it's just, you know, we'd rather have a baseball. I think we have a fixation. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah. Do you really like her that much?
SPEAKER_07: Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Really? What's not to like?
SPEAKER_06: Do you have all her albums? No, she doesn't sing. I know. Do you have all her all of her?
SPEAKER_07: I know all of her performance on her on the gymnastics.
SPEAKER_03: She's incredible on the balance beam. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07: Her floor routine is an unbelievable routine.
Chris: Oh my god. All right. Well, that's it for the Buccos report, Dan. Thank you for listening to my brand.
SPEAKER_03: I really appreciate it. Well, the grand has something to say.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah. Now, we do have, of course, we have in the house our top prognosticator. This was a gift from the great DG, who we are honoring by dedicating this show to. He provided the magic lamp. The Grand Schwabini is going to make his prediction right now.
SPEAKER_03: I am going to predict today Paul Skeen's number of wins for the 2024 season. Oh, I like this. The number of wins will be… I got a number.
SPEAKER_07: Eight. Oh!
SPEAKER_03: He will go, he will have 17 starts. Now, keep in mind, if they had a five-man rotation.
SPEAKER_07: Which they're eventually going to get to.
SPEAKER_03: Okay, if they have a five-man rotation, that would mean there'd be 24 starts for him left in the year. So I say, while they do silliness with six man, and maybe let's say he has a little elbow problem here or there, or maybe they decide they're gonna shut him down in September, I say 17 starts. He goes eight and five with four no decisions. That's a pretty good year for rookie.
SPEAKER_07: No, I would say that's good. That's horrible. And he's got to get the 10 wins.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but the run support is so bad. The run support.
SPEAKER_07: That's I don't care if he's a fireball or he's got to get the 10.
SPEAKER_03: I will be disappointed. Really? I'm surprised because I don't see how you can get the 10 with this offense. Yeah, that's that's the point.
SPEAKER_07: I'm setting the expectations high.
SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay, but the Grand Schwabini knows all. He's the future. You got that, Paul?
SPEAKER_07: Ten wins. Yeah. Prove the Grand Schwabini.
SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately, the Grand Schwabini is usually right, at least in his mind.
SPEAKER_06: Okay, we got more to do, but I want to remind you that you can catch the Sports Porch podcast, this actual show, right after the show, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or anywhere you get your friggin' podcasts. Uh, leave us a review, subscribe, listen, have fun. You can also follow us on YouTube at the sports porch podcast. Um, next, this is kind of fun. You know, we're in the dead zone, you know, hockey's over as far as the penguins are concerned. No, no, I all do respect H.J. Of course, it's not over. But as far as the pens are concerned, hockey's over. And we got kind of like the in-between time for the NFL.
SPEAKER_03: Jared Goff, second highest paid quarterback.
SPEAKER_06: That's ridiculous. That is horrible. That was a mistake. He's not bad, but seriously. Is this Pat on track or Pat off track? What does this mean? Pat on YouTube is commenting. Oh, it's what Schwabini is his explanation to his bride when he gets home.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah. Pat off track.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
SPEAKER_07: I don't.
SPEAKER_03: Pat off track. I guess he's skipping ahead to Trader Joe's and I'm going to go home and say to my wife, I ate something. I don't know. Yeah. One set of instead of the eight. Remember it was eight wins, eight food. Right. That's off track. Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_06: That's off track. It's probably the rum and coke. Yes. Probably the rum and coke.
SPEAKER_03: As he sits with the elderly at his facility.
SPEAKER_06: There was a story out that H.J. mentioned earlier. We're going to go down. We're going to talk a little Steelers right now, but it's not anything that means anything. And Pat says, yes, you're right about one. We're not sure. Stormy Ben, Big Ben mentioned by Stormy Daniels. Stormy Daniels. Apparently she tried on his Super Bowl ring. Would you explain? Because I I honestly, I don't pay attention. Like this, this whole trial thing bullshit, I have watched almost and read almost nothing about it because I don't care.
SPEAKER_07: I have also done the same thing that you have. But however, when I saw Big Ben mentioned Trump trial. I'm like, oh, kind of fun.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
SPEAKER_07: I mean, you got to look right. What could possibly be said by Stormy Daniels? And essentially what she said was that she remembers meeting with Trump because Ben Roethlisberger was also there and he had his Super Bowl ring and she wanted to wear it. So she said she wanted to wear it. So and she remembers because she actually got two fingers into the ring.
SPEAKER_03: Okay, just one but two fingers right into the ring so fingers or wing so basically what you're saying is Stormy Daniels Big Ben two fingers Trump was also there.
SPEAKER_07: I'm not watching.
SPEAKER_06: Okay. I don't know where to go with this Did it say where they were meeting?
SPEAKER_07: No, that was it. Dude, that's all I could do. I think it was literally like- Probably Mar-a-Lago. I was guessing. Probably Mar-a-Lago, yeah. Probably went down there after the Super Bowl. Yeah, that was over. Trump said, come down, I'll let you stay for free.
SPEAKER_03: I'm surprised Epstein wasn't there. Well, we know he wasn't.
SPEAKER_06: We know he was at least across the street.
SPEAKER_07: We know that Stormy Daniels didn't put her fingers in his ring though.
SPEAKER_06: Here's an interesting story about Mar-a-Lago. I don't think I need to hear about Mar-a-Lago. No, no, I think it's an interesting story about Mar-a-Lago and Trump. Trump wanted Mar-a-Lago was going into bankruptcy and Trump made an offer and they, they rejected the offer. So what he did is he bought the land across the street because whoever they were going to turn it into some kind of club and he bought the land across the street so they couldn't have access to it. So then they sold it to him for $5 million. Wow. That was it. Yeah. So, I mean, it doesn't matter if you're a Trump. Yeah, it doesn't matter. Trump support. I am not a Trump supporter, especially this year. Doesn't matter whether you are or not. That was a savvy business deal, if you think about it. And without it, Stormy Daniels wouldn't have been able to put her fingers in Ben Roethlisberger's ring.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and it wouldn't have been brought up in trial. So that's the Steelers news that we have this week. All right, there's the Steelers news.
SPEAKER_03: Do we have any other Steelers news? They signed that wide receiver, Scotty Miller.
SPEAKER_07: Scotty Miller.
SPEAKER_06: He played for Arthur Smith. I know that, right?
SPEAKER_03: Wes Welker wannabe.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, all of them. I am a Wes Welker wannabe.
SPEAKER_07: Aren't we all?
SPEAKER_06: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Actually, I'm a Tom Brady wannabe, but whatever. No thanks.
SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's move on to Hockey Jesus.
SPEAKER_06: Hockey Jesus is in the house. If you don't know this, you're going to find out right now that Hockey Jesus reaches on the podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, Spotify, or anywhere you get your podcasts during the regular season after every single Penguins game without fail. you get honest analysis from hockey. I mean, because hockey Jesus is going to be nothing but honest to be truthful. And because he is hockey Jesus, not penguin. There is a penguins Jesus out there. Penguin Jesus is great. Yeah. And, and, and he loves him, but because he's hockey Jesus, as the NHL playoffs continue, He will be bringing you updates on the NHL playoffs, especially on where he drops it on the podcast, but on YouTube as well at the sports porch podcast. So hockey Jesus preach.
SPEAKER_07: So because you're not watching the NHL playoffs, I'm not, you don't need to, because you have me and you know what, honestly, if you wanted to, if you didn't want to watch the games and you listened to me and you went on the sports net on YouTube, you'd get everything you need. I'll be honest with you.
SPEAKER_06: The sports net on YouTube?
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, sports net. It's like they do like highlight packages that last like seven minutes. Yeah, they do highlight packages that last like about 10 minutes.
SPEAKER_06: Okay, well, let's talk about the sports porch on YouTube. Well, I'm just saying like… I got to bring it back around here and be brand centric.
SPEAKER_07: Are you done?
SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry, Jesus.
SPEAKER_07: Go ahead. That's not your job.
SPEAKER_03: I yield to you. You need to go to confessional. I yield to you.
SPEAKER_07: Well, we'll take, we'll take him out to the woodshed later.
SPEAKER_06: Yes.
SPEAKER_07: So not very Jesus. Well, you know, some people have to go to the woodshed.
SPEAKER_06: So there are, he was in the boy Scouts. We got to talk about that.
SPEAKER_07: Go ahead. I'm no longer in the boys. I know that. Are you serious? You're out eight teams left in the NHL.
Chris: All right. Fine. All right. We're sorry.
SPEAKER_07: New York Rangers, Carolina. This is probably, I think the weirdest one of them all, just because the Carolina once again, finds themselves in a position they're down three, one, and they're playing right behind us right now. And it's zero zero going into the second. Ooh, look, there's Jake Gensel and Jake's been looking okay. Yep. But not good enough because the Rangers love to live on the friggin edge. Like they're OK with like going into the third period down 3-2 up 2-1. They don't care. They love playing these one goal games and Carolina seems just like they can't figure it out. Anderson's not had timely saves. Not that Shesterkin's been great, but their inability to get the rebounds is really what's killing Carolina. uh carolina did win the last game mostly because their power play got on and new york rangers power play got off and um honestly the rangers gave up four goals for the first time in something like 30 games in the playoffs which is ridiculous um so you know they're hiding behind shesterkin and they're just scoring enough to win they're really not i don't think the rangers are that great but they can really shut down uh teams and that's what they're doing with carolina Carolina doesn't have a lot of firepower either. The other game in the Eastern Conference, Florida-Boston. Florida's up 3-1. Look, this all happened because two things. Boston realized way too much on their goaltending, and Swayman's played every game. They should have probably played Ole Mark by now. My guess is they'll probably play him now, but it's too late. The problem is Marchand got concussed in the second game. didn't play the third or the fourth game. And they just, they have, they have nothing. They can't do anything without Marshant, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER_03: They need to go to communion. Yeah, they need it. Yeah, they need take a swig of some liquor.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah Now they're they're pretty much they're pretty much done. I don't see them coming back from a 3-1 They blew a two goal lead by the way in the last one and lost 3-2 The the big controversy goal came when Sam Bennett cross-checked I think it was coil into Swayman and everybody thought it was gonna the goal was gonna be overturned But as it turns out you're allowed to cross-check somebody into your goalie and score a goal only because they didn't call it a penalty. If they would have called it a penalty, clearly that would not have been a goal. But I found that I found that disturbing a little bit, but whatever. It's Boston. I'm not going to cry over Boston. Screw you, Boston. You're choking again. there you go. Let's go to the West, Colorado, Dallas. Colorado is actually down to one in this series. That's a good series. It's it's the best series. And if you if you have to pick a series to watch, watch this game tonight. 930 start tonight. Colorado, Dallas. I just love the way these teams play. And here's why. Colorado doesn't care. They just want to skate up and down the ice. The avalanche. And Dallas would like to skate with Colorado, but they're too smart. They know when to slow the game down, and they do such a great job at it. It's just amazing to watch them to be able to stop a talent like McKinnon and Natushkin, and even Cal McCarty to some level. They're really good at just shutting down their big guns, and Colorado is really struggling to get the puck on goal. And get odd man breaks plus Dallas is not giving up a lot of power plays So that's really helped them, you know, take a two-to-one lead in that series Edmonton Vancouver look I did not see Vancouver Doing so well.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm kind of upset about that because I picked Edmonton to win the whole thing Well, here's here's what Vancouver is doing.
SPEAKER_03: Well, and by the way, this is our buddy Rick talk it and friends out Yeah, Edmonton has no gold ending
SPEAKER_07: That's exactly right. They're exposing Skinner for what he is. And they're doing a really good job of scoring when they get the chance to score. A lot of time, what happens is you'll get the chance and you'll shoot the puck and it'll go off a post or miss the goal.
SPEAKER_06: Did I hear that dry sidle is not playing in the next game or something?
SPEAKER_07: He was not supposed to play in the last game and he played and he scored a goal. So I think he's just fine. All right.
SPEAKER_03: Um, pay a little attention to dry sidle. That was, you, you did some research on that one.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, I just heard, I just heard it on the radio. You did some research on hockey. Come on now.
SPEAKER_07: But Besser scored a hat-trick in the first period and held on the win in the last one four to three Edmonton is not gonna quit but they got to figure out a way to either score more goals and get past Vancouver look Vancouver Actually, they one of their defenseman Susie. I know he got at least a one-game suspension. It may be more he cross-checked Connor McDavid at the end of the game, kind of in the face. And he ended up getting a suspension for it, which he deserved, by the way. He didn't need to do that at the end of the game. And so that might actually hurt Vancouver a little bit. We'll see what happens. But that that series is probably the most surprising of the three. I'm not surprised by Dallas I think they're a really good team, but I still think Colorado is gonna give them a run I think New York could easily cash out this game tonight and Florida tomorrow could easily beat out Boston
SPEAKER_06: Well, it's still it's still tied 0-0 in the Rangers-Hurricanes game. Yeah, but the second period just started.
SPEAKER_07: This is exactly where the Rangers love to play.
SPEAKER_06: Right.
SPEAKER_07: 0-0 going into the third. They'll score two goals. Well, still 18 minutes left in the second. Somebody scored two, somebody scored one. They'll pull the goalie and somebody either get the empty net or the other team will score and it'll go over to overtime.
SPEAKER_06: So when do we look forward to our next Hockey Jesus preaching on the podcast?
SPEAKER_07: I think I'm done.
SPEAKER_06: Peace be with you. All done.
SPEAKER_07: No, no, no, definitely not.
SPEAKER_06: I did love your background when you were doing it.
SPEAKER_07: I thought it was great. Yeah. Yeah. I might keep it. Um, I might make, I like it too.
SPEAKER_06: I also like the little flags on your wall though. That's cool.
SPEAKER_07: I didn't want to show the Philly stuff in the background that I had.
SPEAKER_00: What can I do?
SPEAKER_07: And I put it up. Nobody wants to see a building of, you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_06: William. No, no. It was like Liberty one.
SPEAKER_03: Hockey Jesus, when I say, peace be with you, you say.
SPEAKER_07: And also with you.
SPEAKER_06: There you go. Thank you. Did he really have to think about that? I feel like he had to think.
SPEAKER_03: He was just so shocked that I asked the question.
SPEAKER_07: I do have a. I didn't know we were going for the peace sign.
SPEAKER_06: I do have a question, though. I want to know why you are not part of Scouts of America.
SPEAKER_07: Um, yeah, Scouts of America is… That's the new name for the Boy Scouts.
SPEAKER_06: They rebranded.
SPEAKER_03: Oh, so you are still with them. You're just rebranded. Uh, no.
SPEAKER_07: I'm not. You're out completely. Um, I've lost my leadership position. I've given it up.
SPEAKER_06: Well, there's a difference between lost and given it up.
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, lost, where you sort of push towards losing that position. You know, kind of like, you know, if you give this up, we'll kind of keep it quiet.
SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, there was…
Chris: You always know it's going to be a really uncomfortable moment on the sports board.
SPEAKER_03: That was bad. I apologize. He has a very straightened arrow.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, well, he does listen to a lot of Taylor Swift. He does. And Libby Dunn. I watch her all the time. Of course, that would be… Only your reels. That would be reason to stay in the Scouts of America, because I feel like the Scouts of America is now going to be all-inclusive.
SPEAKER_07: Yes, it already has been. They're just finally getting around to it. Girls have been able to be in scouts for the last three years.
SPEAKER_06: I mean, I think that's a huge mistake, to be honest with you. Well, no, they don't.
SPEAKER_07: They don't. They don't. They don't allow boys and girls in the same troop.
SPEAKER_06: Then why not? Well, isn't that Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts?
SPEAKER_07: Right, right. No, no, there's no, there's not. Girl Scouts is another organism.
SPEAKER_06: I know it is, but I'm just saying then what, I'm so confused.
SPEAKER_07: You are confused. All you need to know is that I said, I need to step down out of this position because I have other pressing things like hockey Jesus and whiskey making to get to.
SPEAKER_06: Priorities. Okay.
SPEAKER_07: As you get older and wiser, you find out there are other things to do in life and it's time for me to move on from Scouts of America.
SPEAKER_06: Or maybe you find out that bad press in the nature of this was probably worth you stepping down.
SPEAKER_07: You know what I'm saying? No comment.
SPEAKER_06: Okay. We have another exciting segment. We're going to bring to you on the sports, sports, black and gold tonight. This is something brand new. Um, I want to thank half price books for providing this opportunity, not because they're paying us. I wish they would, but because I found this book at half price books. It's a great place. If you guys still read, do you know how to read Trump?
SPEAKER_03: I enjoy reading off the internet.
SPEAKER_06: There you go. So we are going to try to stump the yinzer tonight. Stump the yinzer. I guess that would be me. That is you. Hake Jesus is the yinzer. The question tonight… And if the yinzer is stumped, then… He gets to redeem himself.
SPEAKER_03: Senor Schwalbe will try to out-yinzer the yinzer.
SPEAKER_06: Are you Latino now? Senior Schwab? I said I'm Senior Schwab. Are you the Grand Schwabini or are you Senior Schwab? I said I'm Senior Schwab. Alright, alright. Okay, so here we go. Stomp the engine. Who was the Penn's first head coach? This one should not be that hard. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_07: It should not be that hard.
SPEAKER_06: No, if you think about it, you should know this. You, you should know this.
SPEAKER_07: Think about it. You should know this.
SPEAKER_06: Well, you'll, you'll understand when I, when I, because obviously we're going to stump you. Come on. I don't know if there's a real, I can't say this. It'll give it away. Come on yinz guys.
SPEAKER_07: I don't know it.
SPEAKER_03: You don't know it. All right. So I get a chance to out yinz the yinzer. Red Sullivan.
SPEAKER_04: Red. You didn't give me a chance.
SPEAKER_06: No, no, no, no. You get to ask a different question. No, no, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_03: He tries to answer it. If he fails, then I try to answer it. That's out yinzering the yinzer.
SPEAKER_07: Did you know it was Red Sullivan?
SPEAKER_03: I did not.
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know what threw me off is I, I thought you're going to get a badger bar.
SPEAKER_03: I was, I had no clue.
SPEAKER_06: I Johnson. I literally thought everything. I thought I was getting the grand Schwab beanie and I got senior Schwab and it totally screwed me up. I didn't understand it. It's your accent, senior Schwab.
SPEAKER_03: I didn't understand anything you were saying. You got to learn how to play along. Uh, yeah.
SPEAKER_06: See, Pat said, you said hard. Yeah. Um, well, do you want to give him another question? See if we can stump him. You already did stump me once. Okay, questions are on one page. Answers are on the other. Yeah, yeah. Answers are on the other.
SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_07: All right, okay. Red Sullivan. All right. I see why you thought I would know it, because it's Sullivan.
SPEAKER_06: Right, exactly. Well, I just thought you might know it anyway.
SPEAKER_03: I'm going to pick one that you should know. Okay. All right, I'm going to give you a good chance.
SPEAKER_06: Great, no pressure. Stump the Yinser. Stump the Yinser. Obviously, he doesn't read that much because it's taken him a long time. It's hard to read trivia. Yeah. It's hard to read.
SPEAKER_07: Some of those names are difficult.
SPEAKER_06: Well, I mean, he is Senior Schwab. Maybe he can only read Spanish.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah. You should have brought the Spanish version.
SPEAKER_06: That's right. Yeah. Okay. You can hear the Spanish on the sports porch, Desportes. Desportes. Desportes. Okay. All right. Here we go. Come on, Senior Schwab.
SPEAKER_03: In what year did Franco's Immaculate Reception occur?
SPEAKER_07: In what year did Franco Harris Immaculate Reception occur? Well, we just celebrated the 50. So that would have been in 1973.
SPEAKER_06: incorrect 1972 there you go well there you go you tried you tried i don't know if you're i don't know i don't know if you're really a yenzer are you really a yenzer well they'll have to prove it next week i just don't know stupid trivia All right, that was Stump the Yinzer. I wouldn't have got that either.
SPEAKER_03: I would have thought like 74 or something.
SPEAKER_06: I knew it was… Pat thought it was 74. Yes, Pat said 75. I knew it was 72. Did you? Yes, I actually did that. I don't think so. And I am not a Yinzer. Okay, let's move on to another segment. Our last two segments of the show, I think, we get Grant Schwabini predicts. So this is something that we want to thank Trader Joe's for. Thank you, Trader Joe's. Here we go. Okay.
SPEAKER_01: Taste the biscuit. Taste the goodness of the biscuit. Taste the honey sauce. Taste the goodness of the biscuit with the honey sauce.
SPEAKER_00: Don't get that honey sauce on me. I don't like the way it tastes with my chicken wings.
SPEAKER_06: All right, this is the Trader Joe's product of the week. First thing I want to say is that while I wish that Trader Joe's would be a sponsor and pay us for this, they are not. However, I do have permission. I work at Trader Joe's, so I get to see all of their food all the time. By the way, it really is the greatest grocery store on the planet. All right. What about Whole Foods? Don't like Whole Foods. Well, what if they wanted to sponsor us? Well, I'd take their money. So Trader Joe's product of the week this week is something a little, we've, we've been doing savory for the most part this whole time. This is something that is sweet. Oh, it is Speculoos cookie butter ice cream. Here you go. It's a shorty. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to give you that. I'm going to give you that. And then I'm going to give you a spoon. And it's been, uh, it's been hopefully defrosting the one, nothing rangers, Jacob Shorthand. Okay. And why did I, why did I, why did I pick Speculoos, uh, cookie butter, ice cream Speculoos Speculoos. Do you know what Speculoos cookies are?
SPEAKER_07: That means like, they're like small inside of there.
SPEAKER_06: Yes.
SPEAKER_07: Jesus.
SPEAKER_06: My fault, there you go. You do it, you do it, get your own there. I gotta, I gotta, I gotta explain.
SPEAKER_07: Speculoos.
SPEAKER_06: All right, so Speculoos is a traditional European cookie commonly served in bistros and cafes. These thin, crispy, cinnamony cookies are made in Belgium and enjoyed as the perfect complement to a cup of coffee, a glass of milk, or crumbled atop ice cream. And they are, the cookies are delicious. Now, the reason I got hooked on Trader Joe's is a few years back, somebody brought me something from Trader Joe's called Speculoos Cookie Butter. And it's kind of like they take the Speculoos, they're, they're like the cookies and they ground it up and turn it into like a, like a peanut butter, but it tastes like the cookie and I can't stop eating the jars. So I brought home the Speculoos ice cream. I'm just going to eat it right out of the damn thing. All right. This stuff flies off the shelves. It flies off the shelves, boys. And you got to get,
SPEAKER_07: Oh, by the way, all my blood tests came back normal. Okay, good.
SPEAKER_06: So you're not a diabetic. That's another. So here it is. Speculoos, cookie butter, ice cream. You got to get some of the brown, the darker brown stuff. That's the cookie butter.
SPEAKER_07: And the cookie butter is a winner.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's exactly right. What do you think?
SPEAKER_03: I think it's pretty good. Yeah, I think it's pretty good.
SPEAKER_07: I mean, I love, I love the cookie butter. Big fan of the cookie butter.
SPEAKER_03: I mean, I probably wouldn't buy this cause I prefer other types of ice cream. Like what? Like all kinds of things. Let me guess. You're a mint guy. I do like a little mint, a little mint chocolate chip, but I'd probably say mainly I am a, a, you know, some version of chocolate. Right. Uh, and I also do really like strawberry.
SPEAKER_06: Oh, I see. Mm hmm. You're you're a little fruity.
SPEAKER_07: I think this was a good choice in flavor.
SPEAKER_06: Yep. Yeah, I agree. Pat says the thing is, I'm distracted. Dang, that looks good. The thing is, it's really good.
SPEAKER_07: I forgot to show you. I ate all the cookie butter. Yeah, that's sorry about that.
SPEAKER_03: It's good. But like if I had this, I probably wouldn't have it again for like a year.
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, people do that. It is super sweet.
SPEAKER_07: Mm hmm. Mm hmm. Way too sweet for me, but I mean, to be honest, I could eat a vat of that, that, that cookie butter though, that Speculoos butter. I'll bring it home.
SPEAKER_03: I mean, to be honest, I would say it's the first item that we've had that I felt like there was no surprise at all. Okay. Well, I mean, it's just ice cream. Let's just be honest. It's frickin ice cream.
SPEAKER_07: No, that's not true. That's Speculoos butter. Cookie butter is special. Yep.
SPEAKER_03: I might not find it that special.
SPEAKER_06: Timothy McVeigh's last meal was mint chocolate chip. That's good to know. I'll never have it again.
SPEAKER_07: All right, so we got… No, he will never have it again.
SPEAKER_06: I happen to love that cookie butter, so I'll tell you what, we'll sample that cookie butter sometime in the near future. Not next week, because it'll be too easy. We don't even have to do it on the show. Just bring it to me. Yeah. All right, guys. Well, thanks for that. That was our Trader Joe's product of the week. Thank you, Trader Joe's. All right. I better stop that before the song starts again. Okay. Thanks again for that. The Trader Joe's product of the week is brought to you by me. Um, now the last segment of the show, something that we really enjoy doing is what we're watching, what you're watching and what is that? Well, Hey, look, there's a lot of streaming services. We're all streaming something. Insert Boy Scout joke right there. It's over. I'm actually kind of sorry that it's over. I really enjoyed the jokes. Yeah. You know, you think you could maybe become Catholic again? Are you sure?
SPEAKER_07: I don't think you can just become Catholic again.
SPEAKER_06: Well, you were born Catholic, right?
SPEAKER_07: I mean, if you have $500, I think anybody can become Catholic.
SPEAKER_06: Did they excommunicate you when you said, I'm not going to get married in a Catholic church?
SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, really really serious. Yeah, I mean they're the Catholics have a lot of really strict rules Yeah, and if you break them, then you're out you're out unless you have $500 gone.
SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's hilarious Okay, enough of that.
SPEAKER_07: Well, that's it. That's a whole nother.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's another show actually what up Pope? Oh So, uh, what we're watching, uh, we, we like to watch all kinds of things and, uh, we have inserted, we've inserted a very simple rule. Now, uh, we're going to bring to you a series that we have watched to completion or a movie that we've watched to completion. and try not to reveal any spoilers, but we're going to talk about that and maybe there's a little discourse, maybe not. Pat's like, that wasn't a Catholic church. Pat, if you remember what you and I did before the night before that wedding, you would realize that I didn't even realize it was a church when I was there. I don't want to know what the hell you two were doing. Let's just say we weren't in the Boy Scouts. Sounds bad.
SPEAKER_03: Somehow you ended up a Wendy's late night.
SPEAKER_06: That was every night back then.
SPEAKER_07: That was my last meal, by the way, before I got married.
SPEAKER_06: It was. Wendy's. Yep. It wasn't mint chocolate chip. Nope. Nope. Maybe you. Schwaber is watching.
SPEAKER_04: Shot to the heart, and you're to blame. Baby, you gave love a bad name. Pretty good. Did you like that?
SPEAKER_06: Pretty good. If I go loud, I'm not bad. All right. What is it?
SPEAKER_04: I'm a cowboy on a steel horse I ride. I'm wanted, wanted. Wanted! Wanted! Little love!
SPEAKER_03: Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do And actually, it's kind of my go to if I ever do karaoke, which I pretty much only do here on my company retreats. Oh, God. So like I'll be like, thank you, Cancun. Good night.
SPEAKER_07: Amy, you must record one of these.
SPEAKER_03: But no, this was actually kind of interesting. I mean, I would not consider myself a Bon Jovi fan of any sort. I mean, I like some of his music, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan. Look, I would certainly go to a show.
SPEAKER_06: Did they address Pat Offtrack's comment here?
SPEAKER_03: The guy tried to buy the bills to move them to Toronto. Screw him. Well… Well, he was never going to buy the bills. I mean, look, actually, if he bought the bills, he'd probably be in better shape. Maybe. But anyway. Yeah, Toronto Argonauts are in Toronto anyway. Maybe they were selling you a line of BS.
SPEAKER_07: That's CFL.
SPEAKER_06: Oh, you're married to a Bon Jovi fan? I am married to a Bon Jovi fan, yeah.
SPEAKER_07: Well, there you go. Now we know why you watched it.
SPEAKER_03: Tell us about it. Yeah, it wasn't him watching it. No, he just jumped on the bandwagon. I mean, you know me. I could very easily be like, yeah, I know what happened. I mean, yes, the guy grew up in New Jersey. Started with Runaway, then got shot to the heart. Richie Sambora joined the band, and they were really good. And then they kind of faltered. And then they came back.
SPEAKER_06: But, okay, so I watched.
SPEAKER_03: But in all seriousness, it was pretty good. I mean, it gave you some behind the scenes stuff. You kind of learned who he is close with in the music industry. Who is he close with? One name. Bruce Springsteen.
SPEAKER_07: Well, they're from Jersey, right?
SPEAKER_03: Yeah. And you got a little insight into how he broke through with his first hit, how that got accomplished. Drugs. But what was actually kind of interesting about… I bet you drugs. Pot.
SPEAKER_07: No. I mean, you were watching it. There had to have been drugs involved.
SPEAKER_03: There were no drugs involved. Actually, there really were not a druggie band, or at least they didn't talk about it. But it was actually kind of an odd documentary because obviously there was all this looking back. And it's four episodes that were all an hour 15. But sort of the, the main thing they go, they kind of go present and then they're looking back and present, then they're looking back. You mean like most documentaries? Right. Well, the present part is about, he actually, um, really strained his voice over time. Right. And so he had to get surgery on his voice. And so a lot of it is about like, will he sing again?
SPEAKER_06: Will he sing again? Surgery on his voice or surgery on his,
SPEAKER_03: Voice, vocal cords. Not vocal cords, something in that area though. Yeah, you know. I don't know how to do surgery on a voice. I actually kind of found that part almost like a little depressing. Oh. Did you cry? But my wife kind of thought that it was like. Uplifting. Really kind of courageous that he would like be vulnerable enough to put himself out there showing you that like there was a period of time where like he could not sing at all. He was probably just over it. But look, it's fun. It's enjoyable. It's on Hulu. It's on Hulu. It's fun and enjoyable. I mean, I recommend watching it if you like his music at all.
SPEAKER_07: Give me your password. Thanks, Pat.
SPEAKER_03: If you like his music, then you'd probably like it. I enjoyed it. I'm a big fan. Are you? Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Then you'd like it. Then you'd like it.
SPEAKER_06: How can you not be a big fan of Bob Jovi? Seriously. Bob Jovi.
SPEAKER_07: They sing his song in all the arenas now.
SPEAKER_03: Yeah. What? Well, yeah, it was something like, I think they said in year 2013 or 2014, they actually had the highest grossing tour in the world that year.
SPEAKER_07: Yeah. In 2014. Yeah. Way after when he was big. Right, right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I do appreciate people who can sort of come back. Like there was a period of time where they had some pretty bad records.
SPEAKER_07: He just put out a new song, by the way.
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_07: And it's actually not bad.
SPEAKER_03: Yeah. Yeah. But, you know, he did have, like, you know, obviously they had their tremendous run, and then they kind of faded for a while, and then they came back with that, like, It's My Life song. And, you know, so they did kind of have a comeback. So they really had staying power.
SPEAKER_06: It's an interesting story. I'll probably watch it. I like rockumentaries. I think they're pretty good. Although I will say that I watched a rockumentary the other night. Um, no, no. And it was probably the worst rockumentary I ever watched in my life. And it was on a band who you would think they would do it well. Duran Duran.
SPEAKER_04: Oh, I watched it.
SPEAKER_06: Did you not think it was bad? I thought it was horribly done.
SPEAKER_07: It wasn't. It wasn't great. No, I did watch that. Yeah. And I love their music. I actually could use that one for this time.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah. Yeah. You could have. You could have. Absolutely. Sorry about that. That's okay. All right.
SPEAKER_07: We're moving on here.
SPEAKER_04: Goodbye.
SPEAKER_03: Never say goodbye. People are leaving. Actually, people are joining.
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it was the rant and the singing.
SPEAKER_03: People are like, yo, this dude's singing Bon Jovi, get on. That's right.
SPEAKER_06: So we're moving on to what I'm watching. What I'm watching is brand new on Netflix, that squeaking in the background is Sassy playing with her toy. It probably means she has to poop, so that's why she's getting a little…
SPEAKER_03: Pat off track brought up the Goo Goo Dolls opening for Bon Jovi.
SPEAKER_06: Thanks Pat on track. Really? Saw the band in Sunrise Florida, Buffalo's Goo Goo Dolls. Pat, look, this is a Pittsburgh show. Let's just keep the Buffalo comments to ourselves.
SPEAKER_03: Buffalo, nobody cares.
SPEAKER_06: All right. I am. Well, I just finished watching today. It's a brand new show on Netflix starring Jeff Daniels called a man in full. I was thinking of watching a man in full. I'm not watching this.
SPEAKER_07: No, I know why you watch it. You love that guy.
SPEAKER_06: Jeff Daniels. I do love Jeff Daniels.
SPEAKER_03: Do you know that he can really sing and play guitar? Yes. Yeah. I didn't know that. But I had a clip on my Instagram, like it just came up. It was like he was on Kelly Clarkson.
SPEAKER_06: He's really talented. They did. He did that show here that was on for one, maybe two seasons, but I know for one that was based out of Braddock called American Rust.
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah. I didn't finish that.
SPEAKER_06: That was good though, wasn't it? It was good, but it didn't get critical acclaim and enough viewers, so they canceled it, but I thought it was pretty good. But the thing about this show, this show is basically about a very powerful Atlanta real estate developer. He went to Georgia Tech and played football years ago, and now he's kind of like, I would, I would, I'm going to use this comparison lightly, kind of like the Donald Trump of Atlanta, but without the casinos and all that stuff. And the banks have had it with him. He's got a, he's got a, a pretty, uh, brazen attitude about stuff.
SPEAKER_03: He's like, so kind of like Donald Trump, but not a president. That's right.
SPEAKER_06: And, uh, yeah, you're funny. And so the banks have decided they want to take him down. And there's one particular banker there who kind of like admires him but hates him. And it's kind of about that. And it's one season. There's a beginning, and then there's an actual ending. And what happened is, it's good. I would watch it. It's pretty good. But the ending, I'm going to leave you with this on the ending. I watched the ending of the series. and what happened. And I wasn't surprised by that because it's one of those things where they kind of start the series with the ending and then go all the way back to the beginning. But as I reflected on it over the last few hours, I actually have to It's one of the funniest, most ridiculous endings of a series I've ever seen in my life. In a good way or a bad way? In a good way, like hilarious. It wasn't supposed to be hilarious. It's not a true story? No, no. Totally made up characters. But the last scene that is the ending. And then they have like a little followup scene where you kind of see people going their own way. But the last scene, when I think about it in my head, if I could just describe it to you right now, it's hilarious. So it's worth watching just so we can have a little talk about that. That's, that's pretty much all I got for you there, but it's, it's, it's good. It's good. And, and Pat actually says that show was incredible. So, you know, maybe you shouldn't watch it. Um, One last thing Let's play the music tonight We would like to You should turn the music off. Yeah, you think so? Maybe I should maybe I should we'll go back to that So a very, very dear friend of ours passed away this past week. We want to dedicate this show to DG David Gannis from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, originally from Pittsburgh, graduated from CMU with a mechanical engineering degree, moved on to become an aerospace engineer, which is what Steve has actually aspired to be when he was in college. But DG was with us from what feels like almost our first show. Uh, he was always positive and upbeat. Uh, he supported us from day one. His contributions were immeasurable. He took the time to, uh, actually send us gifts and costumes and comment on our podcast. And I mean, we just considered him part of the family. So we're really, really, uh, saddened by his passing, but, uh, say a prayer for DG and, um, I'm just grateful he was part of our lives. So, um, yeah, it was a good guy. He was a good guy.
SPEAKER_07: He always had great things to say, very positive. Added to the show quite a bit. Yep. He'll be missed. Absolutely. 100% already has been.
SPEAKER_06: He will. And this show and every show in the future is for you, DG.
SPEAKER_04: I'll be there for you when you stop words I swear to you when you breathe I want to be there for you I'll be there for you Thank you so much for having me.
SPEAKER_06: I live and I die for you. Let's go listen to this great music on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or any other music streaming podcast.
Chris: I am your team leader, and I am out.
