On this episode I share with you techniques to decrease your stress by self-soothing touch.
It is human nature to need to be touched to feel content and safe. Physical touch has a protective effect on the physiologic stress response. A hand hold or a hug from another can relieve your stress. But sometimes touch from another is unavailable, uncomfortable, or not safe.
Research has shown that alternatively, self-touch gestures can be used to decrease your stress response and actually decrease your cortisol levels. Cortisol is the chronic stress hormone that over time is very damaging to many of your body systems responsible for many symptoms and illnesses including several chronic preventable diseases worldwide.
Here are 3 ways you can simply and effectively self-sooth using your own physical touch:
1--2-part breath
2--self massage
3--hand to heart with loving kindness meditation
