It's a time when the word "special" seems to be generously sprinkled everywhere, from high-profile Netflix extravaganzas to an up-and-comer's 45-minute set on YouTube, but each brings its unique flavor to the table.


Gary Gulman - Born on Third Base: At #1, Gary Gulman’s latest is a masterpiece, with a natural delivery that's both hilarious and insightful. His chunk about Jerry Seinfeld cracked me up. Gary is a master wordsmith, and a great storyteller. If you thought the Great Depresh was peak Gulman, think again he's still in ascendancy and likely to start to show up in the same sentences as the usual list of Top Comics. Watch this one on MAX.

Todd Barry - Domestic Short Hair: Barry might just out-joke Gulman. His special is a laugh riot.

Shane Gillis - Beautiful Dogs: Gillis' special on Netflix is a display of charisma and pure fun.

Tom Segura - Sledgehammer: Segura brings his A-game on Netflix, delivering a special filled with genuine laughter.

Kyle Kinane - Shocks and Struts: Kinane's storytelling on YouTube is top-notch, making it one of the year's best.

Nate Bargatze - Hello World: Bargatze's Amazon special is so good, I rewatched parts of it right away and grabbed my wife to (re)watch it with me.

Ricky Gervais - Armageddon: Gervais tackles sensitive topics on Netflix with his unique brand of humor. The best version of “anti-woke” I’ve seen so far, and at times reminded me of George Carlin.

Michelle Wolfe - It's Great to Be Here: Wolfe's energy shines on Netflix, presented in three engaging parts. An innovative approach to bringing the funny without having to shoehorn a theme.

Jaye McBride - Daddy's Girl: McBride's YouTube special stands out for its humor and intimate setting. Keep an eye on Jaye.

Jim Jefferies - High and Dry: Jefferies talks about life changes on Netflix, with his usual no-holds-barred approach.

Pete Holmes - I Am Not For Everyone: Holmes delivers a feel-good special on Netflix, filled with good storytelling. Pete is a personal favorite, with so much charisma.
