Now, let me tell you, it wasn't all that long ago that I lacked the time, budget, and knowledge needed to grow my small business as a body sugaring pro.
[00:01:42] If we were to press rewind, you'd see the many failed attempts and lessons learned that have helped me build the profitable business that I have today. One that runs on its own and gives me the lifestyle and freedom that I only used to dream of. I created the Sugar Show to hand you my secrets [00:02:00] and give you the simple step by step strategies to help you do the.
[00:02:04] So if you're a cosmetologist or aesthetician or wax professional who's looking to fill your books, make more money in your business and enjoy greater balance between your work and home life, you are in the right place. Let's dive in.
[00:02:31] Here she is. Live well recorded for all of you, but live with me, miss Shauna Rocha, the director of Education. That's kind of, that's a cool title, sister. It
[00:02:41] Shawna Rocha: kind of
[00:02:41] Shannon O'Brien: is. Yeah. Right. I've seen you from the beginning. It's so awesome to watch you grow. Like, ugh, I'm so proud of you. Thank you
[00:02:51] Shawna Rocha: so much. Hard, hard work takes hard
[00:02:54] Shannon O'Brien: work, you know.
[00:02:55] Let's talk about that for a minute. We, I'm gonna put you on the spot here because we are gonna talk about sensitive skin in [00:03:00] a minute, but I really want to start out first by talking about hard. Hard work because I've literally watched you from the beginning when you were at school and I've watched you teach at schools and the common core to all of this, sensitive skin sugaring, uh, proper skincare, proper education, all of that is actually hard work.
[00:03:22] Yes. And I really believe that. Watching you and experiencing your teaching style, the, the message at its core is always hard work, and you exemplify that because you didn't just go to school, get your, you know, credential, your license, uh, you know, get a little job grind away in the treatment room. I remember watching you.
[00:03:50] You didn't just go to school. You went to school and did the honors track at your school, which is wildly cool that they had that. Mm-hmm. You did the honors track, you were like, [00:04:00] oh, I'm gonna be top in my class and I'm gonna do whatever it takes to set myself apart. Back in beauty school, Yes. Talk about that experience and your, your advice for students right now.
[00:04:11] I
[00:04:11] Shawna Rocha: still, I like, you know, I go to schools and I talk to a lot of students and that is the key to success I think, in our industry is to set yourself apart. Yes. So not only it took the honors track, but I was already taking advanced classes before I graduated beauty school. Yep. So I was already on the fast track, um, and not just advanced classes that.
[00:04:34] Easy. Um, I took hard things. I took hard things like ingredient classes at ucla. Anyone's ever done that? That one's a big one. I took, um, a lot of oncology courses, took a huge autoimmune course. Um, I knew what my niche or my focus, what I wanted it to be, so I only took classes that would help me. A lot of holistic treatments cuz I knew what I wanted to do.
[00:04:59] Um, for some [00:05:00] reason, you know. I picked the hard road. Right. I picked the clientele, um, with sensitive and sensitized skin. They're the hardest in our industry to treat. Yeah. Um, but man, if I can't use the skills that I've learned, um, on these tricky clients, what am I doing? And so I set myself apart by being like a sensitive skin specialist.
[00:05:21] Mm-hmm. And that, of course, brought me to. Um, because I had to sugar the, the skin in the face. Um, with these clientele, I could not use wax. There's been a lot of innovations in wax in the last, you know, five years. Um, so I don't wanna put down all wax, but for, at the time, the only thing that we could use on sensitive skin was sugar.
[00:05:43] And so I also. Partnered up with more at current and we decided that sugaring could be done on the skin a lot quicker with oncology clients than WAX could. Mm-hmm. So that only builds your business quicker and faster. It [00:06:00] all goes back, um, to what you can give to the client, to what your business gives back to you.
[00:06:05] So I did, I fast tracked. And aligned myself in the niches and classes that I needed, um, to be a specialist at one
[00:06:14] Shannon O'Brien: thing. Yeah, I watched you, you didn't just sit in class. Do the assignments, sit around, chat with fellow students like you really took it serious. Mm-hmm. And that's, that's the biggest message I think for those of you that are listening that are in beauty school right now, or even just starting your career.
[00:06:29] Mm-hmm. You don't just watch, you know, some YouTube videos and go to a aesthetic school and then think that you can, you know, all of a sudden charge the big bucks and, and, and diagnose. Right. What people have going on for them. Like that's not what we do. You know, we educate ourselves always. We're cl Well, you and I are still in classes.
[00:06:49] I
[00:06:50] Shawna Rocha: have one in May. Yes. Yeah. Learning and learning have a big one coming up in May in Oregon. Yeah. Yeah. You just have to continue your education. We don't know everything. No. Um, coming [00:07:00] out of beauty school, I'm sorry, but I knew nothing. I mean, they. To pass state board and that's their jobs and they do that effectively.
[00:07:07] But beyond that, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves to further our careers. We cannot be stagnant and just take what we're given for sure. We need to take what we need for sure.
[00:07:18] Shannon O'Brien: So you became properly certified in sugaring back in the day with Ice Sugar University. You are a proud alumni. I never wax.
[00:07:27] Shawna Rocha: I know you, I only waxed in school and then I learned sugar and boom. Right
[00:07:30] Shannon O'Brien: out the bat. Right out the bat. Cuz you saw the benefits. I love that. Yeah. And then you became oncology certified. Talk about that a little bit. It's not just about reading a book about, you know, medically sensitive skin and you call yourself oncology certified.
[00:07:44] Let's talk about that for a minute. It
[00:07:45] Shawna Rocha: isn't, there's, it's a, it's a trick of course. Again, hard road, right. Um. I love people. I, I love helping people. My godmother was diagnosed, uh, with pancreatic cancer and after her first [00:08:00] chemotherapy treatment, she had fuzz all over her face. Can't wax it. She's supposed to be six months past treatment to do it right.
[00:08:10] So then I went, I had one oncology class, I went and took an advanced class. What oncology teaches you is not only to see those people that are having treatments, it teaches you to work with medically compromised skin. Which, I'm sorry. More and more we're seeing in our treatment room. Oh, absolutely. Um, medication affects the skin in every way over the counter prescribed long-term chemotherapy, short-term chemotherapy, and so it.
[00:08:37] It gave me a foundation not only to treat only sick clients mm-hmm. But how to treat the rest of my clients also. Um, just those special in new anything you do special for an oncology client, why aren't we doing it for all of our clients? Mm-hmm. Uh, so it really just paved the way, it changed my entire thought process of how I was doing [00:09:00] my treat.
[00:09:01] Yeah, so I'm grateful for that. And I still have oncology clients. Um, not as many as I'm tra you know, moving on in different paths in my career. But the challenges there, I, I've had four clients pass away. Like, it's not an easy, easy road, but no. And. I know that I helped them and I brought joy to them as long as I possibly could.
[00:09:25] Yeah. And, and that makes me full. Right. Sometimes we gotta do things that make our own heart full. Um, and of course you're not making money on oncology clients, so then you have to get the other clients in to make your money. Right, right. So it taught me a lot about. How to treat people. Um, the things I wanted in my treatment room and I didn't want, as of sugar, not wax.
[00:09:48] Mm-hmm. Um, I still to this day have no glycolic acid in my room, which big debate, nobody pound me for that. It's my personal, personal decision. Um, but it does. [00:10:00] Getting certified in something like that does change your perspective on how you're going to rule, run your treatment
[00:10:05] Shannon O'Brien: room? Absolutely, because you're properly educated on all the ingredients, all the conditions.
[00:10:11] This isn't just oncology, like you said, this is medically sensitive and really, I think especially since lockdown, the amount of people that are coming to us with sensitive skin. And it's really stressed out skin. It's properly cared for skin.
[00:10:35] Shawna Rocha: Right? I'm gonna say something Shannon, and this is probably gonna upset a few people.
[00:10:39] Good. Um, the class I took on autoimmune. Disorders affecting the skin was phenomenal. Um, we see it every day and after the last three years, it's just going to increase. You're right. Mm-hmm. Not just stress of being locked down. People have con me more medical conditions now with more [00:11:00] medication and a lot of people's autoimmune systems are messed up a, from giving.
[00:11:06] Having it more than once. The vaccines. I mean, I know we don't wanna be political, but it's real. It's in every treatment room. Yeah. We're seeing it more and more. You're absolutely right. I'm glad that you brought that up.
[00:11:18] Shannon O'Brien: Yeah. Yeah. And if you don't have tools in your toolbox, You know, you've got, for those of you that can't see, she's got a whole cart behind her with all of her tools in her.
[00:11:28] Here's the lot in her chest. Right? And really it's about having the tools in your treatment room to handle those folks when they come in. You're not putting strong peels on these people. Their nervous system is shot. Yes. And if you don't understand what that means, you need to get educated on what it means to have the nervous system shot and at how it affects the body.
[00:11:48] To have you, you don't even have to have an diagnosed autoimmune disorder to have your nervous system, your parasympathetic nervous system absolutely shot, and every cell [00:12:00] of your body is on fire. Right. And you, it's gonna come out in your skin, on your body, on your face, on your neck, on your chest, everything.
[00:12:09] Right? Yeah. And if you don't have the tools to be able to handle that, mm-hmm. You, you shouldn't touch your clients, right? Absolutely. Right. So tools of education and the proper products. We talk a lot about tools in the toolbox. Shauna, we talk a lot about what you should have, but I wanna get really specific for this podcast because Okay.
[00:12:32] I think that there's folks that are like, oh gosh, I did have someone on my, in my treatment room that had sensitive skin and I just used, you know, my sensitive wash. And I, you know, I, I just did sensitive things, you know, I used what my line says is sensitive. Right. And I just, I made sure the wax wasn't too hot.
[00:12:56] Right. Right. And, well, they seemed to be okay. And [00:13:00] so I just put a little hydrocortisone on 'em and you know, they seem to be, Right. So right advice for anyone, a veteran's, uh, sugar pro, skincare pro that's listening to this to a newbie, if you were to give advice on the basics of what to absolutely stop and make sure that you have in your toolbox in the treatment room, what would you say that is?
[00:13:26] Shawna Rocha: We talked about education already. So in my toolbox back here, in my, my mini drawers of goodies, the first thing is to have something that's gonna, if you do overuse something on the skin or create a redness or inflammation, you have got to have the products there to help you calm that down. Mm-hmm. If you don't have that, those clients are gonna leave very.
[00:13:51] Mm-hmm. The other thing, so I always have, you know, from, of course, I'm hail and hush, I always have my hush hydrate mask and my relief bio powder. It has saved [00:14:00] my life so many times. I can't see
[00:14:01] Shannon O'Brien: mine too. I mean it, that's like the absolute must. Every, every room should have that duo. Absolutely.
[00:14:08] Shawna Rocha: Just in case.
[00:14:09] And we're gonna link to that
[00:14:10] Shannon O'Brien: in the show notes, believe. Okay,
[00:14:12] Shawna Rocha: cool. Yeah, because, and I believe the cleans. Because the cleanser can be used on any one, six to 106, you're never gonna go wrong. Mm-hmm. Now, specific tools, when people come to you and they have sensitive skin, a lot of estheticians think, oh, I'm gonna ex skip the exfoliation.
[00:14:28] I'm gonna skip this serum, I'm gonna skip. Okay? We cannot be giving services. You're charging for an hour treatment. You cannot be giving services for 30 minutes. You cannot do all massage. In a lot of states. We cannot do massage and hands and feet anyway. You're not supposed to. Um, so what I always have are holistic tools.
[00:14:47] I have a lot of silicone scrubbers that help with mild exfoliation, um, mechanical and. Physical like ones you use with your hands? Mm-hmm. I have a lot of tools. I have Jade Rollers, squa tools, [00:15:00] coldy Globes, cubes, whatever you like on that. Cons, wands. You've got to be trained in a few of the holistic tools so you can fill your time and not just fill your time.
[00:15:12] But with the scrubbers I use, they think it's a face massage that has hydrate gel. You. Any little holistic modality on top of it, either go out facial rolling. Does not take a lot of education. It does not, but it's a, it's a nice cooling hydrating effect that you can use on the skin that fills the time and it's.
[00:15:34] Feels great for your client. I'm not opposed to hand massages and foot massages. Even scalp treatments are beautiful, but you gotta be trained in a scalp treatment to do that. Rubbing someone's head is one thing, but if we're working on meridian lines or anything with the energy in the body, You have to be trained in that also.
[00:15:51] So not only they're not just coming to you for a wash, a peel, a moisturizer, but you've gotta use other modalities in there that are a [00:16:00] little more holistic, calming, gentle for their skin also. Yeah. So it doesn't take much to fill in those little gaps with little education here and there on how to do things.
[00:16:10] So that's my biggest suggestion, um, for new esthetician, seasoned estheticians, I don't care who you are. Let's get you trained on these little holistic tools for you to do an appropriate 45 minute an hour treatment in the room on sensitive or sensitized clients. Yeah, because they deserve as much as your attention as you're giving to your other clients.
[00:16:30] Shannon O'Brien: And your other clients might all of a sudden have something in their life that causes their skin to be sensitized and you have to be prepared for them and not even be a new client. Yes. My new client you've been working on for five years, and all of a sudden they come to you during the lockdown, all the mask knee that was happening.
[00:16:46] Thank God that Chris Campbell designed Halen hush to give me the tools during when we were coming out of lockdown, actually, right when we were getting into it and on our way out. The mask knee. [00:17:00] Mask acne for those of you that dunno what that is. Mm-hmm. That was happening. And the redness and irritation from wearing masks all the time.
[00:17:07] I thanked God every day that Chris Campbell put together. Ha and Hush. Yes.
[00:17:12] Shawna Rocha: Yeah. And the, just the poor texture. The Oh I see. Seen a lot of clients come in. This isn't, this is a side note too, Shannon. Environmental changes. Mm-hmm. Now we're both in California today. Mm-hmm. And something naughty's been happening in California with the weather that never happens here.
[00:17:29] Nope. So our environment has drastically changed. I see clients later today. I guarantee that they're gonna have changes, sensitivities not expected. Yep. Coming into my. Yeah, because also environmental changes, which have happened everywhere. Some places it's colder, some it's hotter. I mean, it's going crazy, unexplained,
[00:17:48] Shannon O'Brien: no stuff.
[00:17:50] Mm-hmm. The like the weather, the stress hormones. Oh God. We could do a whole hormones podcast on hor hormones. You and I are just talking about that, right? Mm-hmm. If you do not have a tool [00:18:00] to help them, They kind, it's kind of a notch, you know, a, a mark against you. Like, well, I went to my aesthetician, she didn't have anything for me.
[00:18:08] Mm-hmm. I can promise you now that your clients at some point in their journey with you in skincare and in sugar care are going to say, ah, what is happening to my face? Yes. What is happening to my parts? What is happening to my skin? And you can say, you know what? I got you covered. I got tools in my toolbox.
[00:18:26] Come on. Laid out on my table and to, you have to be prepared for all of your clients to have that experience walking into your treatment room. And you have to be prepared to, to save the day. Mm-hmm.
[00:18:39] Shawna Rocha: Right. And I've heard a lot of clients complain that when they do have sensitive skin, they get half as treatments.
[00:18:49] Mm-hmm. Nobody wants to give that, right? Mm-hmm. Um, so you just, or they don't think they can. No, you just have to have alternatives. I, you, uh, 80% [00:19:00] of my clientele is sensitive or sensitized. I use Ha and Huff every single, almost every treatment, either all of it or pieces of it. Mm-hmm. It, like I told you, it saved me.
[00:19:08] It's helped me. Mm-hmm. It's, it's helped me perform. What my clients think are miracles on their skin with the home care. Right. I think I have angel wings. I'm not sure if they show up in the video, but, um, so there's just a lot of things. If you're prepared, like you said Shannon, if you're prepared in your treatment room, you're gonna be a heck of a better esthetician.
[00:19:28] Yep. And be able to follow through with these treatments, with this type of clientele than anyone else. So you're not gonna be that halfway esthetician. Yeah. Right. You're gonna be the best at sensitive skin. And I hate to tell you, but people with sensitive. You help them that spreads like wildfire. Yeah.
[00:19:45] Because they think they can't find anyone. Don't know anyone, that nobody will take the time. Mm-hmm. So it only helps financially also to be able to have the tools in the Tube book to help.
[00:19:55] Shannon O'Brien: Well that just is really a perfect testimony to, to. [00:20:00] Really just being a testimony, right? Like, so if someone comes in, a client, a colleague, right?
[00:20:05] A coworker comes in and they constantly have red face, their skin looks irritated, and all of a sudden they're glowing and they've solved their redness problem. They walk into the office. Six people are gonna notice. It's the best testimony ever. Forget socials. Mm-hmm. I mean, you can put that on socials.
[00:20:24] Sure. But at the end of the day, if someone's like, oh, I went to my esthetician, and you know, that redness and irritation that I've been struggling with, she just had the tools for it. I promise you, you're gonna get two or three new clients from that
[00:20:36] Shawna Rocha: hands out. I did that at my Spawn, Washington state. I helped a nurse in a three week span.
[00:20:43] I had 12 referral. There you go. God's honest
[00:20:48] Shannon O'Brien: truth. I mean, there you go. I mean, there's no reason people want to feel better. Mm-hmm. They want relief, and if you don't, there's their jobs. Yeah. Yeah. So if you don't have the tools, the [00:21:00] education, the proper products, there are so many beautiful skincare lines out there.
[00:21:05] So many beautiful skincare lines. Mm-hmm. You can still use Ha and Hush as a compliment to that. Absolutely. Tools in that toolbox to make sure you have everything that you need for those clients that are going through all of this. And I will tell you, Ms. Shauna knows, um, because I tout from the rooftops all the time.
[00:21:21] Um, if you are new to the Sugar Show podcast, you've heard me talk about the the Ha and Hush duo, which they have this beautiful entire line that you can use for sensitive skin. I absolutely shout from the rooftops Award winner, award winner, award winner, the Hail and Hush duo. And it is, I mix it.
[00:21:41] Sometimes if I need like super immediate relief, I will take, you mean this Relief bio powder? Yes. So those of you that are listening on the, uh, we're gonna talk about that in a second. And this, this is kind of funny cuz it's actually not a plug for ha and Hush. It's a plug for the. Magical powers that are inside those two [00:22:00] bottles.
[00:22:00] Yes. So talk really quick about, and, and I'll tell you that when, what the products that Shauna's gonna share with you in a moment. I actually use them on all over the body, so Oh yeah. We'll use them on the face. But if someone is having a reaction or, yeah, down south, like it takes care of it. If someone, if you're, if you're sugaring the nap of someone's neck and they're like, wow, I'm really like, it's kind of like sensitive.
[00:22:29] It's kind of on fire. You can use it on the nap of a neck. You can use it all over the body. Yes. You know, someone is having a reaction to whatever it is you've done. A, a back facial, um, you know, if someone's having any sort of reaction, those two. You're a miracle worker. So I'm gonna step off my, uh, my soapbox about screaming about the Ha and Hush Duo, but talk about what's in those magical, mystical products that everyone must have.
[00:22:58] If you are walking the dog right [00:23:00] now listening to your this podcast, Like literally look down and see what time this is, and I'm gonna put it in the show notes. Go back to the show notes when you get back, put the leashes back on the hook and click that show note for these two products. Cuz I promise you, you must have this if you have nothing else in your treatment room.
[00:23:17] And Shauna, talk to them what they are and what's inside of
[00:23:20] Shawna Rocha: them. So hush gel. Is calming and soothing on contact. Okay. Um, it's beautiful n now it can be used two ways. It can be as a light moisturizer for acneic oily clients. Mm-hmm. After sugaring, and I still do Brazilians and I tell you what, I don't even hesitate.
[00:23:36] Um, all these sugar companies with their aftercare, I love you, but I'm sorry, I just use the hush hydrate. On the vaginas, on armpits, on faces, on eyebrows. Yep. I put it between someone toes once they had a rash there, I put it everywhere. Um, but it has a lot of awesome, it has giant knotweed in it, so it has a lot of antioxidants in it has neme.
[00:23:57] I love the neme, the nemus for calming and [00:24:00] soothing. It's just when you place it on the skin, you can automatically feel it. It takes the redness and inflammation. Boom like that. So for eyebrows, it's wonderful. Um, if you're sugaring, eyebrows, the face, you just put a little bit, little dabby dab and they're good to
[00:24:13] Shannon O'Brien: go.
[00:24:13] I'm gonna give you a quick testimony. I'm gonna jump in there, Shauna. I had a client, first of all, when my clients go, ah, that's like the best ever for us. Mm-hmm. Right? Mm-hmm. One, two. I had a client who. Was getting waxed all the time, and she came in to get sugared and she's a, a redhead, so she always gets the histamine reaction.
[00:24:32] Oh, she gets redness. She literally says she's red for three days, right? So what I did was I sugared her lip and used the hush hydrate gel. I hadn't even put the bile powder in it. I just used the hush hydrate gel to finish. She called me on the drive home cuz she was still pink when she left. Right.
[00:24:50] Because we pulled Yes. 10,000 hairs out of her lip. Right? Yeah. On the drive home. She pulled over, took a picture and sent it to me and said, I haven't even gotten home [00:25:00] yet and the redness is gone and I'm not in stingy Tingly pain. Yes. Yeah,
[00:25:07] Shawna Rocha: exactly. Preach,
[00:25:08] Shannon O'Brien: preach. Yeah. Sorry. Okay. Ha Enough. But his.
[00:25:12] Shawna Rocha: Gel Plus the Hush Hydrate gel is wonderful, but the Relief Bio Powder is our most underrated product here, man.
[00:25:20] And it's the best. Okay, so these are our hero products. If you don't know, it's Batman and this little relief bio powders. Robin? Yes. Um, now this also takes care of inflammation and redness, but it also handles it. Yes. So this is great if they complain of itching anywhere on the body. Yep. Now the, my favorite way to use it is them together you put a couple sprinkles in the hush hydrate.
[00:25:43] However, lately I've been obsessed with using just the relief bio powder in a little cup with a fluffy makeup brush, um, and brushing that directly on the skin again, after anything on the face, even cheeks. Um, Eyebrows, even [00:26:00] hairline. I do a, a client with hairline and just brushing this right on top of the skin.
[00:26:04] Mm-hmm. Because once you get, like Shannon mentioned, the neck, once you get in the little hairline, it's a little iter. They, they complain a little bit. Mm-hmm. Great. After extractions, Down below. Mm. I guess they're not extractions. They're uh, what? Ingrown hair service. Right? Still pulling something out. Yeah, it's great.
[00:26:24] Down below too. Great for armpits if they complain of itchiness. Um, that's, I, I have these two things. I use them all the time. Either in my sugaring treatments or my facials. I use it probably almost every service.
[00:26:37] Shannon O'Brien: Yeah, for sure. I take it a a separate way that I use it. If I have a client go, Ooh, yeah, my lips feeling kind of itchy, you know, they'll kind of check in with you.
[00:26:46] Right. I'll put a little on the back of my glove, on my nons sugaring hand. Yeah. And I'll take, um, if I will take a, a, just my little pinky, I'll pink press it into the back of, I literally press it onto my. And I [00:27:00] press that directly into the skin. Yes. Let it sit. I, then I come back and I put the ha, the hush hydrate gel right on the top of it.
[00:27:08] So it gives a chance for that powder to like turbo work. Yep. Majority of the time though, I just mix 'em both. But if there someone's like, I need relief right now. I'll just grab that powder, press, press, press, and then put the gel over the top. Okay. Yes. There's my, there's my spiel on. The power to. So those are my, those are our two heroes right there, Batman and Robin.
[00:27:26] And then of course the rest of the line, you know, is, it's all great. Incredible. And you can go to, um, Halen, Hashi I would highly suggest if you, when you're at the trade shows, um, if you can grab a Zoom class with Shauna, absolutely take it inside our Advanced Knowledge library. Shauna has, uh, taught a sensitive skin sugaring class on there.
[00:27:47] And, uh, that was a little while ago, but we, we have that up inside the, um, in the sugar tribe. So you can do that. Links to that are always included in the show notes. Um, but Shauna, we're gonna wrap this up because you and I are gonna do this more and more [00:28:00] again and again. Okay. I think we're gonna go live with our stuff, um, soon, together, side by side, Ebony and ivory on the table.
[00:28:07] I love it. And I, I really, you have been now traveling. Since you've been promoted to Director of Education for Hill and Hush, you have been traveling all over the country. Yeah. Let's finish up with what you're seeing out there at the trade shows. What, like what, what is it like out there in the, in the wild.
[00:28:29] Okay. So what are you hearing from estheticians? Like trends or.
[00:28:32] Shawna Rocha: Okay. Yeah. Definite trends. Sensitive skin is on a rise. It's on a big rise. Um, obviously, yeah. Let's talk about last year our trade shows. I think we went to five. They were pretty good. Vegas was, you know, obviously the big ones were always big and they were pretty steady.
[00:28:49] Let's talk about New York City a few weeks ago. Off the chain. So if that is in the, in any indication what 2023 is going to be like, [00:29:00] um, for the rest of the trade shows, it, it was crazy. They opened those doors and thousands of people came in. We ran out of half of our product the first day I saw that we had no samples.
[00:29:10] No brochures. All we had is Chris Campbell's cards and a wing and a prayer, um, to get through the second and the third day. Um, people are ready. They're ready to try something new, to have those tools in the tool belt. Um, my biggest fault is I did not have all of our classes printed out. We have about. 60 classes scheduled for the rest of the year on product knowledge, intimate treatments, my sugaring class, back treatments.
[00:29:35] Mm-hmm. Um, business classes, skin of color classes. Um, now we're doing our classes in Spanish because that's how much it's expanded. In the last year. Um, and I just feel like this year's gonna be the explosion for sensitive skin people were coming out of it finally. Um, but sensitive skin, definitely on the rise in treatment rooms, at trade shows.
[00:29:59] They want me to talk [00:30:00] about it. More and more people are asking, um, people are wanting the education on how to treat. Tricky, tricky skin type. So Shannon, I'm glad sort of you miss New York because it was crazy town. Um, Anaheim is next weekend and then all the big dogs are in June.
[00:30:19] Shannon O'Brien: Um, yep. Gosh. I'll be in, where we going?
[00:30:21] I'll be at the summit, the esthetician summit in, oh, the summit will be there too. We'll be in Vegas in in June. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So it's, it's incredible. So I guess the message then is, uh, for a show is get your products early. Go straight to the booths you wanna be at, and then goodness. Take classes toward the end.
[00:30:39] Shawna Rocha: Don't worry, we ship for free. But if you want it right, then please come right away, because yes, that was just, I've never seen anything like it. Um, it, it's great. It says a lot about our in industry. Yeah. That people are ready. Our industry is, This year. Um, talk about recession and all that stuff. I don't know.
[00:30:56] I don't know if that's gonna affect us this time, guys. I [00:31:00] don't know. I feel like we're gonna breeze through this. If you have a niche and you have your tools Yep. I think you're going to make some
[00:31:07] Shannon O'Brien: money this year. Yeah. Yeah, I really do. And, and really it's about the hard work. We're gonna circle back to the beginning of this podcast if you put in the hard work and really don't just sit back and wait for the clients to walk in.
[00:31:19] Mm-hmm. And oh, you have sensitive skin. Mm-hmm. Oh, I should probably figure out what to do. No, the hard work is now, the hard work is putting in the time to educate yourself, be on these zoom calls. If you can't make it physically to a location where we, you or I are teaching, be on these Zoom calls, go to these trade shows, put in the.
[00:31:37] And you absolutely can make six figures in this business, number one, and number two, you can benefit your client, which is really what we're here to do. Mm-hmm. We are here to make sure that our clients have the absolute best and we have the answers for them. Yes. And we have done that with sensitive skin and sugaring collectively in our niches.
[00:31:58] And we're here to spread that love [00:32:00] with you. Everything that you have heard about is inside the show notes. And really it's all about making sure that we care for our clients, and yes, we actually care for ourselves and love this industry as much as you and I do. Mm-hmm. So, Shauna. You rock it always with our audience.
[00:32:17] I look forward to seeing you live. Thank you very soon. And, uh, teaching side by side with you and Sugar Tribe. You got this. Have a fabulously sweet week. Bye. I hope that you re-listened to this episode because there is so much. Knowledge bombs in there, and I hope that you are inspired by Shauna and I. I remember seeing Shauna in the beginning of her career, grinding and really, truly working hard at being the best in school.
[00:32:44] I wasn't lion. I watched her teach back at her old school. I sat in the back with just pride of watching this dynamic woman. Nail it and inspire others. And so if you have not taken a class with Shauna, you absolutely [00:33:00] need to find out where she's teaching. Again, if she is at a trade show, introduce yourself.
[00:33:04] She is really, truly a gift to the skincare industry. And Chris Campbell, the owner of Haen Hush, saw that in her early and snatched her up and she was wise to do so. Um, Shauna. Sugars exclusively inside of her treatment room. She is inside of our sugar tribes. She will be teaching classes and I really, really hope that you scroll down to on those show notes and take a look at some of the links of the things that she recommends because you will not regret it.
[00:33:33] Have a fantastic sweet month, week, year, and I hope that you feel prepared when it comes to sensitive skin.
