26. The Mission Must Come First

I’d like to share something for all my guys out there who may be struggling with women. I’m not a dating coach, but as a career coach for former athletes, I feel responsible for helping people improve every single area of their lives, including relationships. Single guys often tell me that they have trouble attracting women once they’re no longer playing sports at an elite level. Guys in relationships tell me that their partners don’t seem to be as “into them” as they were during their playing days. I think one of the main issues here is that some of us get complacent when we’re done playing sports. We settle into whatever job we can get, and use our partners as yet another way to fill the void left behind by the game. I learned the hard way that this "void" can never be filled by a partner if we’re not truly complete within ourselves. I believe the best way to fill the void is to find a new mission to pursue.
