Affirmation today: today I am grateful ❤️
A wildfire burned near our home on Saturday, consuming 650 acres of wildland. It was a terrifying day for us as we packed our car with everything we could take and waited to be evacuated. Firefighters from three counties came to fight the blaze and keep it contained. Within five hours, they had it down and all homes and farms in the area were kept safe.
We are so lucky - this is the worst season for fires because most wild flora has died, we're also within a mile of Simplot - one of the largest producers of fertilizer in the country. It would have gone up like a fireball.
An affirmation for today is difficult because I'm still shaken, exhausted, and unpacking our things from trash bags as I write this. But the truth is that we were incredibly lucky and sometimes, perhaps, fate intervenes. Today I am grateful. Grateful for the firefighters and their response, grateful there was minimal damage to the surrounding acres, grateful that our home and the others nearby were kept safe, and grateful the animals made it out safely too. Within a few hours, the turkeys had come right back home ❤️ And the raccoons came back that night too.
