The Secret of Getting Ahead is Getting Started
So often we want to do a thing and are afraid. This was me in 2020. Once I called a thing a thing, I felt the fear and did it anyway.
Deneen L. Garrett: “So the secret of getting ahead is getting started. I was hesitant to get started. After my coach told me people were waiting to hear from me to hear my voice and then reading Brene Brown vulnerability. I NIKED it and launched an intimate conversation with women of color on Good Friday 2020 I felt the fear and did it anyway.”
You have to start in order to finish. Recognize what’s holding you back. Acknowledge it. Embrace it. Just do it!
Girls in STEM

Ancestor Spirit
When you think of what the Ancestors may have dreamed of, Diamond Sade comes to mind. She is not afraid to show up authentically for herself and others. Wet alked about this in her episode.
SEO
SEO is an abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization. What this means is optimizing your site for search engines so that you can rank higher on Google, Bing, etc…
Deneen: “I wanted more accurate data for where my podcast is going sponsorships etc. Danielle and I are working on Search Engine Optimization or SEO..”
Learning and about and leaning into SEO has been a game changer for me. Check out my Podcast Coaching Journey episodes for more.

So the secret of getting ahead is getting started. I was hesitant to get started. After my coach told me people were waiting to hear from me to hear my voice and then reading Brene Brown vulnerability. I NIKED it and launched an intimate conversation with women of color on Good Friday 2020 I felt the fear and did it anyway. Check out my very first episode. Welcome welcome an intimate conversation with women of color to hear what vulnerability sounded like.

My 25th Episode was Same Same: Sing the same tune with Jannie Fernandez. Jannie was a partner when I worked in corporate diversity and inclusion. She is a thought leader who is committed to elevating the contributions and visibility of communities of color through the development of programs and initiatives grounded in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices. Jannie is very passionate about girls in STEM, which is what we talked about.

Personal power How To Own Your Power and Voice with Coach Keisha. Coach Keisha was my 75th episode. It was the first to launch on my current player after making that pivotal switch, which I've shared in previous journey episodes. Coach Keisha took a 30 day reflective break. And out of that came her three R's, which we discussed in the episode.

It's been an amazing journey and one I decided to take on really lean into while I was at afros and audio, which is a podcast conference. This was in October in Philadelphia. I thank the founder and CEO Talib Jasir for giving me a platform to use my voice by hosting my very first podcast session. Being there and doing this was like a full circle moment for me because I kicked off my first An Intimate Conversation with Women of Color panel in 2017, which later became this podcast. From panel to podcast, this is my journey.

If you're new to listening, I hired a podcast coach in November. She, Danielle Desir Corbett, founder of WOC Podcasters is the reason I switched players. I wanted more accurate data for where my podcast is going sponsorships etc. Danielle and I are working on Search Engine Optimization or SEO. Plus, uploading my files as MP3s all of this have been game changers for me. I also changed the name of the podcast to Women of Color: An Intimate Conversation after a suggestion during a podcast panel. Rob from Libsyn my podcast host suggested leading with the main focus of your podcast in the title. My main focus is women of color. So that's the reason for the change to Women of Color: An Intimate Conversation. After the change, I immediately jumped to number two on Apple podcast for women of color podcasts. And as of today, which is March 16. I have 5500 plus downloads. vs. 5600 plays after two and a half years on Anchor. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Anchor. It was easy and free. I made the swap for better data as Anchor only reports Spotify and Spotify just bought them so do your research. Check into the options to see what's best for you. If you're just wanting to get your voice out there, Anchor is perfect. If you want to capture data from multiple sources like Apple, Spotify, iHeart and beyond, invest in a player that reports all. Again, do your research.

Podcasting has landed me multiple speaking opportunities. Podcasting and speaking are my number one focus. And I say number one because they're pretty much one in the same. Check out DeneenLGarrett.com/speaking for more on my speaking and to work with me. I just returned from Podcast Movement Evolutions Vegas where I did my first Live. With Libsyn actually with PodBean. PodBean also hosted the panel that I was on.

While there, I was blessed to attend Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit, where I met one of my podcast guests Betty Hines. Her episode will go live next week. Episode 101 on March 24. also met Arlan Hamilton, who was the reason I record on Zoom which allows me to easily upload to Libsyn as well as to YouTube. Arlan's episode Because Because: It Had to Exist has jumped to the number 10 spot. Thank you, Arlan.

It has the most downloads out of Ireland. I still want to know who knows Tywanna in Ireland or me. Email tweet or DM me on LinkedIn or IG to let me know. I so appreciate your listenership. Thank you and also thank you to all of my listeners. Feel free to reach out. This episode is also using a new format for my show notes. Hope you liked the blog like appearance.
