I am using your wonderful podcasts to educate myself to be the best support I can be to my beloved daughter and her husband. This isn’t about me and my perspective it’s about them. Everyone would assume I would be in an ideal position to support them, as a mother, a midwife and a birth trauma treatment practitioner, but I find myself on the other side now, and helpless to help those closest to me. It has been revelatory (not in a good way!) to realise that even though I know people in the field, the bewilderment is the same, the odds are the same, the questions are the same. Knowing all the while that I am a potential anxiety trigger for her - I am a mother, I look after pregnant women, and I treat mothers and fathers who have had trauma around birth, miscarriage, loss and infertility.
So I’ve been listening, reading, learning - learning how to be, what kind of support I can best offer.
