Don't Give Up Eat Pizza For Your New Year's Resolution (Yough gotta see this)

When it comes to pizza, the dough is everything. Unfortunately, many people try to vilify this carbacious snack when it comes to health. And many times, they are right. Enter pizza alternatives- I'm talking about keto pizza made with chicken (yuck) or low-carb tortillas that social media says to lightly toast on one side before saucing and adding cheese... What?!

If you can't tell by now, I'm not a fan of these. Pizza, as most of us remember it to be, is not a health food. It's rich, it's fatty, it makes us feel good the moment we bite into it. But unfortunately, it is easy to overeat this yummy food. There are many problems with overeating and since just some guy on the internet, I say this with loud caution- this is not health advice! From personal experience, I think part of the problem with us scarfing down so much pizza is the carbs- it's easy to eat a lot of.

For example- when someone lays down a breadbasket on the table, how many pieces are you eating? Personally, I am having more than one (if there are more than enough to share) because I'm hungry and it's addicting. I've seen some Youtube videos on the science behind carb addictions, but again, I will STRAY away from this and just point you to Youtube University.

But back to pizza, most of the time, dough is high in carb low in protein and often times we are not full after just eating one slice. And sure- you can add a bunch of meats and cheese to the dough, but you can't argue that pizza has to be well-balanced, so you can't overload the toppings be more "full" without ruining the integrity of the pizza. But my dear pizza lovers, there is a new product on the market addressing the unbalanced macronutrient nature of dough.

Yough is a greek yogurt-based dough that is carving its way into the frozen pizza space and is hoping to change the behaviors of pizza lovers. Instead of going for a pizza that will leave you hungry and heavy, Yough's goal is to give you a protein-rich snack that will satiate and satisfy all while keeping the calories low.

Check out the nutrition label here

Less than 500 calories, 51 net carbs + 32 grams of protein and 17 grams of fat for a WHOLE PIZZA. Those are perfect macros for someone like me who wants to be careful of carbs and wants a lot of protein.

Now I will say, this pizza is a bit on the smaller side- I would not share this with my wife. It's more of a personal size. But that works for me since my eyes are usually bigger than my stomach, but I won't feel terrible eating more than just a slice or two.

Still, if we compare this to a Red Barron PIzza (this was our go-to frozen pizza for our post-college drinking days) and split the pizza in half (as we would often do), the macros are not even in the same arena.

78 net carbs, 32 protein 48 fat (and that's only half the pizza- good luck NOT Eating the entire thing if you're drunk). It's helpful to note that half of a Red Baron Pizza is neck and neck in weight with a full Yough pizza.

Not to mention, the ingredient list on Yough is SO much cleaner. Check it out:

Dough 5 Ingredients

Sauce 4 ingredients

Cheese- 1 ingredient

CRUST: Greek Yogurt (Cultured Nonfat Milk), Organic Wheat Flour, Leavening (Monocalcium Phosphate, Baking Soda), Sea Salt.

SAUCE: Italian Tomatoes, Olive Oil, Salt, Garlic Powder

TOPPINGS: Low Moisture Whole Milk Mozzarella Cheese (Pasteurized Milk, Cheese Culture, Salt, Vinegar, Enzymes).

All in all, this is a great option for people who are health conscious (or trying to be) and don't want to give up pizza. Smaller portions, great breakdown of macronutrients and clean ingredients. And from one pizza fan to another, it tastes amazing.

So don't  give up pizza in 2024. Just grab Yough!
