Simple Addition

Episode 157: If someone is born in 1952, he would be 62 in 2014 (not 72). Flaws In details like this lead me to wonder if other "facts" in the podcast are misrepresented.

One of the best true crime podcasts out there

I’ve been listening to Southern Fried True Crime for years and it is one of my all-time favorites. I love Erica’s voice (and tasteful hint of accent) and the way she presents her content. I appreciate how she explains the story then adds her input at the end. Outstanding overall. I’ve noticed several reviewers mention too many ads. You can join Erica’s Patreon for $1 a month and never have to hear another ad. Also, if you want to listen to podcasts for free, you’re going to have to deal with ads, that’s just how it is. Either pay (and support the podcaster who is putting their time/energy into the podcast) or hush.

Outstanding!

My review is long overdue. I’ve been listening to Erica, the most gorgeous honeyed voice in podcasting, for years. She handles the most gruesome cases with professionalism and grace. I value her take whether I agree or not. She is always empathetic on behalf of victims and families and one reason I listen is she delves into the possible motivations or twisted psyches of perpetrators. If I wanted a straight recitation of facts I’ll read Reuters. Erica if you’re reading this: your telling of the Darlie Routier case was one of the best moments in podcasting history. I understand the Medea/borderline witch phenomenon well and you did a service by storytelling this heartbreaking case. I’ve no doubt that anyone who listened learned a great deal. Never stop Erica - you’re a treasure.

Absolutely the best!

This podcast is the best. I compare all the other podcast to this one and they never measure up. Love Erica’s voice. It’s so relaxing. I don’t like a bunch of back and forth talk that many podcasters do. I always keep my eye out for the next one to drop.

Love this podcast

I love the host and how she sets the scene from the beginning so that I feel immersed in the story. Her story telling style is perfect and keeps me interested from start to finish. Definitely one of my favs and one of the best true crime podcasts out. I’m always chomping at the bit to hear a new episode.

Excellent podcast! Content, Delivery, and ambiance!

Southern Fried true crime is one of the best podcasts I have cometo listen in my recent weeks. From the narrators calming voice and her ability to truly describe every feeling and visual account this podcast will make you feel like you were sitting and watching everything being played in front of you. I like that the information is portrayed from a neutral point of view but nonetheless the author and narrator have excelled at portraying these crimes for what they are. I love the show and I will recommend it to all of my friends it seems like you were sitting around the table with your family or friends and just having a discussion while drinking tea or a good glass of wine! Great job! Please continue your excellent work.

Great story telling

I appreciate getting background on some of these criminals and I know it's not an excuse. I always do wonder what the heck makes these people tick. As much as we can guess

Best podcast

I am a podcast addict at this point and SFTC is the best. Erica tells the stories with empathy for all parties and Hailey does a phenomenal job of researching the details. Love love love them! Great job!

A few things….

About the Yana Hass case: I’m a recently retired teacher. The staff at Peter’s school REALLY dropped the ball. They could’ve saved Yana had they reported what little Peter told them. In the 2 states where I have taught (Illinois and Minnesota), school personnel have been mandated reporters for 30 + years. Teachers, etc. will lose their jobs as well as professional licenses if they fail to contact children’s services when abuse is suspected. I can only hope & pray that Fla. has such a law by now! Erica- I love your voice & storytelling!

Excellent well researched show

This is my current and long standing favorite true crime podcast. Erica does a great job with providing a detailed account of the case including background of victim and perpetrator. She keeps it victim focused and does not excuse the murderer although at times provides insight into potential motivating factors from his/her background. I find this an important factor because we often wonder “why did this happen?” And knowing the person was abused etc helps me understand. It doesn’t mean excuse like some reviewers try to say (and like defense lawyers will state) but it’s good to know. I love that Erica describes the town or city at the time including demographics. It’s an amazingly well researched show. I’d give it more stars if there were more. I read through other reviews and am baffled by the trolls.

Episode 155, I agree!

Totally agree with your “rant”. I want to know the “why” and it’s not an excuse. Human behavior is fascinating and often scary. Understanding gives insight to better predict behaviors, catch folks and intervene before behaviors start. Love the podcast, don’t change!! 👏🏽

True Crime standout

Erica delivers amazing story telling and is fabulous at honoring the victims. She isn’t afraid to tackle challenging issues and the psychology of the crimes. The show is phenomenally researched. And Erica’s voice is so griping.

If you like a smooth Southern accent…

…listen to this show. Erica’s voice is like butter. Butter melting on a biscuit fresh out of the oven, that is. I mean you don’t even really need to like true crime. That said, Erica is an excellent storyteller. She keeps the focus on the victims (as it should be), and tells their stories with so much empathy that sometimes it’s a little heartbreaking. Erica has an incredible researcher, too - shout out to Haley - they make a great team. Love them and love this show. 11/5 stars.

Nuanced Story Telling

First of all, let me say that Erica has the voice of a Southern angel! It’s a little raspy, melodic and very comforting to me. Listening to Erica helps me stay connected to my GA roots even though I live up North now. I love the way the stories are written and told, with detail, care and nuance. Also, I really appreciate the trigger warnings at the beginning of episodes. Thank you to the SFTC team. I love y’all!
